Scott hadn't the least idea where he was, but he knew he was horribly lost, at best.

He shook the mud off one of his golden boots in anger, his feet squelching in the muck and plants. What had started out as his normal morning walk had turned into a nightmare when he saw strange shimmering shapes somewhere north from his favourite mountain. Turns out, he didn't have the best direction and promptly got himself lost while looking for them. He was in a swamp that seemed to stretch on forever, full of lily pads and mud and reeds choking everything. And he couldn't calm down, which meant he couldn't use his magic.

This is officially the worst.

He yelped as a frog leapt onto his leg, his golden wings flaring out in panic. He was even more startled when he heard a snicker from somewhere nearby. While he had been preoccupied with the frog on his leg, he hadn't noticed the pair of bronze eyes watching him from the water. Scott's head swiveled around as he looked for the source of the sound, his wings spreading instinctively. "Who's there?" he demanded, steeling the shakiness out of his voice.

"Your Highness," someone said, and Scott whipped around. Rising from the murky water was a boy, probably around Scott's age, maybe a little younger. Red and blue robes floated gracefully around him, and a sharp looking crown sat on his head. He had dirty blond hair and startlingly bright bronze eyes, but the most startling thing about him was how...fishy he looked. Light brown scales were clustered across the skin that Scott could see, and instead of ears, the boy had fins. A long, finned tail drifted in the water behind him, and he also seemed to have webbed hands and feet.

"You're a bit far from home, aren't you?" the boy asked, raising an eyebrow. Scott noticed the boy had a slightly different accent from him, smooth and calming. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at the boy, who was quite pretty now that Scott thought about it. Ignoring his thumping heart, he replied, "Who are you? How do you know who I am?" The boy gave a smile that was surprisingly gentle. "I'm Prince Jimmy, of the Swamp Kingdom," he explained, giving a slight elegant bow. "And I'm not entirely sure who you are, but you seem to be from Rivendell, so I'd guess you're Prince Scott?" Scott nodded, relaxing a bit. "Yeah, that's me. And uh...sorry if this is rude but...are you a....codfish?" he asked tentatively. Jimmy laughed a bit, which made Scott blush. "Part codfish, yes. But not fully of course," Jimmy said, flicking his tail through the water. "Ah. I see," Scott replied, looking down slightly.

Silence folded over them like a blanket for a moment, before Jimmy said, "I've never seen you before until now. My parents are always talking about Rivendell though, and how pretty it is and everything." He smirked a little, looking Scott up and down. "I can see why they called it pretty," he added, and Scott felt his face heat up, eyes wide. Is he...did he just hit on me?

He dared to look directly at Jimmy, and saw that the other prince was a little red as well. "Ah, well," Scott laughed nervously, "Rivendell is very pretty. Lots of quartz and towers and...yeah." Jimmy smiled. "Sounds nice. My kingdom is mainly underwater, but some of it is on land, for when visitors come who can't breathe underwater." This caught Scott's attention. "You can breathe underwater?" he asked, looking over at the other prince. Jimmy nodded. "All codpeople can." Scott made a 'hm' noise, looking at Jimmy's gills that were on the sides of his neck.

Jimmy pulled himself out of the water, flicking trails of seaweed off his tail elegantly as he sat down on the shore. "Wanna sit with me?" Jimmy asked, looking back at Scott. "Uh- sure," Scott replied, taking off his white robes to reveal cyan trousers and a white collared shirt. He noticed Jimmy's eyes widen and bit and his face went a little red. Scott looked down and sat beside Jimmy, taking off his boots and letting his feet dangle in the warm water. "So..." Jimmy said, and Scott looked over at him. "Do you have a girlfriend?"

Scott nearly fell into the water.

Jimmy blushed, rushing to explain himself. "That's not what I mean, I just- well, I- I mean, have your parents betrothed you yet with a girl?" he blurted, face just as red as Scott's. Scott wrinkled his nose in disgust. "I'm gay, I'll have you know," he said, probably with a bit more attitude than necissary. Scott noticed Jimmy's frills flaring in what he could only assume was surprise. "Hey, me too!" he said, which surprised Scott. "Do your parents just assume you're straight and try to betrothe you with princesses?" Scott heaved a sigh. "Yes, and it is very annoying."

"I know, right?!" Jimmy exclaimed, suddenly very animated. "I'm about as gay as one can get, I have no interest in girls that way." Scott laughed a bit. "No way, I'm the gayest someone can get," he insisted. Jimmy crossed his arms. "No you aren't, and I'll prove it." And with that, he pressed a quick kiss to Scott's cheek, which made Scott's face light on fire (figuratively of course). Scott's eyes went wide and he stared at Jimmy, his hand drifting to his cheek where Jimmy had kissed him, his heart fluttering. Jimmy was smiling brightly. "See? The gayest." Scott laughed giddily. "Touché, my very handsome prince," he giggled. Without thinking, he felt his hand drift over top of Jimmy's and grasp the codboy's webbed fingers. Jimmy smiled and gently flipped his hand over to hold Scott's hand back.

Scott's heart was going to explode.

"Y'know," he said, "you could come see Rivendell sometime; I could give you a personal tour, if you'd like."

"I'd like that very much, Prince Scott."

Scott smiled. "Call me Scott."

"Then you have to call me Jimmy."

"Deal."

Scott glanced up at the sky. "Shoot, I'd better be getting back. I think I'm calm enough now to use my magic," he added to himself, waving his hand until the gold shimmers appeared in his palm. Jimmy leaned over to get a better look with a little gasp, eyes wide. "I've never seen real magic before," he murmured, laying a finger on the sparkles. "It's beautiful." Scott smiled. "It really is."

He stepped back and spread his wings. "Well, bye Jimmy. Meet you back here tomorrow?" Jimmy grinned. "You bet Scott, my friend...ish, uh...acquaintance?"

Scott blushed, but smiled a bit. He stepped forwards and gave Jimmy a quick peck on the lips, and Jimmy let out a small squeak of surprise. Scott chuckled and stepped back again, waving good-bye as gold magic enveloped his body. His last visual of Jimmy was the codboy's look of complete shock, before he was back in his tower in Rivendell. He smiled to himself and flopped back on his bed, blushing still as he thought about Jimmy's adorable face.

Who cares about royal rules? He was pretty sure he'd just found true love, and he was going to do anything to keep it.
