LEXECOM MAJORITY BLOC MULLS FILING IMPEACHMENT RAPS VS USC PRES, VP —SOURCE by Reynard Falcon
THE MAJORITY bloc in the Legislative-Executive Committee (LEXECOM) is considering filing an impeachment complaint against University Student Council (USC) President Priam Torres and Vice President Valeria Encarnacion.
An unimpeachable source in LEXECOM, who spoke under the condition of anonymity to THE HERALD, revealed that the bloc led by College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) College Student Council (CSC) Chairperson Alaric Esteban has received information that may be used as a ground for impeachment against Torres and Encarnacion.
The majority bloc is composed of CSC chairpersons from CBA, College of Computer Studies (CCS), College of Criminal and Justice Education (CCJE), College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), and College of Nursing (CON).
"I don't want to preempt the bloc, but I could say that they got some damning stuff against the president and the veep," the source said. "If that thing is not impeachable, I don't know what else is."
The source refused to share further details, saying that they will be made public once the complaint is formally filed.
Esteban, who concurrently serves as the LEXECOM chair pro tempore and majority leader, refused to confirm or deny this information.
"Whatever move we make in the committee, you will be notified as soon as a motion is proposed," he said. "If it's true that the president and VP have committed an impeachable offense, then the student body needs to know."
Asked for comment, the USC dismissed it as a "political tittle-tattle."
"Nothing is filed in the committee yet, so we cannot comment on a rumor," USC Press Secretary Rowan Oronce said. "But rest assured that the president and the vice president have always worked within the boundaries of our Constitution and By-laws."
Once a complaint is filed, the LEXECOM will hold hearings to determine if there are any grounds for impeachment. A two-thirds majority vote or six out of nine votes is needed to impeach an elected officer.
USC TO HOLD CAMPUS FAIR IN OCTOBER by Ambrielle Zeferino
THE UNIVERSITY STUDENT Council (USC) has started its planning for the traditional open campus fair in the last week of October.
With the theme "Unity in Diversity," the CampEUs Fair 2021 aims to promote what the university can offer to the community and foster camaraderie among the nine colleges.
"The USC president will soon call for a meeting with all CSC chairpersons to discuss the collaboration," USC Press Secretary Rowan Oronce said in a campus media briefing. "We look forward to working with the College Student Councils in making this event a success."
The fair will most likely feature exhibits, contests, and a concert-for-a-cause to encourage the attendance of more people and to engage the community.
"Last year's fair was extremely successful," Oronce said. "We aim to produce the same result, if not better."
