I was rereading on courtships back then to see how long they lasted as well as rules for it during those times. Courtships were basically dating. But they were a little more serious back then.

Sometimes courtships were set up by families. For arranging marriages. Most of the time it was to see if the couple would make a good match for marriage. Back in those days divorce was not an option. Men could run away or take off on his wife.

That tended to happen. But with courting to during these dates couples were not supposed to be alone not really even when they got engaged. It was forbidden. As was sex before marriage back then was a huge no no!!

Most courtships they had a chaperone come along to keep watch to make sure the young couple behaved properly. No hugging no kisses. No no no. Dating like that well sounds boring.

That's why some wrote each other private love letters. Expressing their feelings in ways no one knew about. It would be between them. Some couples did get away with time alone if they managed not to get caught doing so.

I can't imagine dating back in those times. Goodness. Everyone married rather early as well. Because girls needed a man to take care of them. Lol.

We have come such a long way ladies. Be proud! Lol!
