The blue eyed girl took a deep breath before going down the stairs to join her family for dinner. It hadn't always been easy to be a highly ranked admiral's daughter. Families of higher ranks were important in the Fire Nation and not even one flaw should be known to the outside world.

That's one of the reasons why Kya’s life was even more difficult than it normally would have been. She was a walking flaw of her family. And no effort in behaviour or grades could make it up even the slightest bit.

Kya stood out in the Fire Nation, her looks made people wonder if she even was a Fire Nation citizen. With her striking blue eyes, tan skin and brown hair, it made it hard to believe that she wasn't from the Water Tribe.

How hard she tried to blend in, her looks made it impossible for her to ever reach official Fire Nation citizen status among her fellow citizens. She would always be mistaken for a refugee. And that was a huge problem for her family, especially her father.

The oldest daughter of the Fire Lord's right hand shouldn't have been so different. That's why her parents invested mostly everything into their younger daughter, Michi, who had been the perfect daughter, not only in her looks but also with her behaviour.

Kya didn’t mind to be left alone but still she tried everything to get her parents' approval for once. It was not that she wasn't beautiful; she was but it wasn't right for the higher ups in the Fire Nation.

While Kya had to work hard for everything, her sister got everything without even trying. Still, she loved Michi dearly and vice versa. The youngest often tried to get her parents to see Kya in a different light but every time they looked at her and her blue eyes they were reminded of her difference.

The oldest daughter couldn't complain and had a rather normal childhood and life up to now. Despite being from a higher rank, Kya was down to earth and one of her best friends was a village girl named Ursa. Her parents didn't know about that as they wouldn't find it appropriate for her. They'd rather her being friends with people of their rank.

With her father being Fire Lord Azulon's right hand, the girl had always been around the Royal Palace which lead her to be friends with the two princes. Prince Iroh was her other best friend while Prince Ozai was more or less just someone she knew. Kya wasn't too close to him as he gave her a creepy and weird feeling. But it was very much gladly seen that she got along with both of them. That was probably one of the only points her parents were proud of her.

"Kya, you're late," her mother's strict voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"I'm sorry, mother, father," Kya bowed quickly before sitting down beside her sister who shot her a warning look. Ignoring Michi, she turned to her plate and the family began dining in silence.

While the servants cleaned the table, her father cleared his throat, catching the whole family's attention. His sharp golden eyes, lingered on Kya for a bit longer before folding his arms on the table. "You will soon be of marriage age, Kya."

The girl's heart dropped and she shifted in her seat without saying anything.

"There will be a few families to join us for dinner in the next few weeks and I expect you to behave at your best."

Clearing her throat she nodded, "Yes father."

He hummed in approval and nodded before standing up and leaving to get some work done in his office.

"If you'll excuse me," Kya said and bowed her head at her mother before leaving the huge dining room. She rushed up the marble stairs to her bedroom and closed the door.

Not soon after, Michi entered the room as well. "You were writing a letter to him again, weren't you? That's why you were late."

Kya sat down and nodded. Letting out a sigh, her sister joined her. "I told you to write after everyone is asleep, someone's going to catch you one day."
