chapter 5

HAERIN's POV

"Ms. Kang!" 

A familiar voice called my name from across the hallway. I faced the direction of her voice and saw her waving at me with a brown paperbag on her hand. I patiently waited as she trudge her way towards where I stood.

"Here's the jacket I promised to replace," Minji smiled beautifully. She stretched her hand but I was too distracted by her stunning visual

I found myself staring deep into her brown eyes and I feel like I would melt if I stare any longer so I whipped my head on the other side of the hallway which is probably a bad idea because Danielle is there standing still while looking at us or more like glaring.

There was an electricity that travelled down my spine soon as we met eyes but I shrugged it off and accepted Minji's paperbag without thinking straight. I went inside the classroom not looking back.

"Players of basketball, Mr. Jeon's called for an urgent meeting. You'll be excuse the whole day today, go to the gymnasium."

I haven't even sat yet when Mr. Kim said that, I heave a deep breath and glanced at Minji who ran towards Danielle and clung her arms to the girl

We're one of the representative of the basketball team, I have no interest in it but since I have nothing going on at home I decided to try it out and passed

Surprisingly, I have a talent for the sport

The three of us walked straight to gymnasium in silence, as soon as I opened the door an arm engulfed me into a tight hug

"I knew you'll be here! I'm so happy you're here!" Kai clapped, it's pretty obvious he's happy to see me though

"You're sweating," I mumbled

He chuckled awkwardly, his eyes darted to Minji's direction, "Oh, Minji, I wanted to say thank you for the meal last time, you didn't have to pay for it. I'm Kai by the way, Haerin's guardian angel" I cringed at the last bit

Kai nods his head at Danielle in acknowledgement. He seems reserved towards her.

That caused me to peek at Minji but Danielle's glaring at me. Damn, I thought we were cool?

"You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed your time there,"

Minji's deep voice is so heavenly to hear

"Haerin, can you come with me for a second?" Danielle tilts her head to the side as I pointed at myself for clarification, is she being for real?

Her stares are so heavy, I can't carry it.

If Minji's eyes were calm and serene, Danielle's the complete opposite, her eyes were like the burning pit of hell

I gave Kai the 'get-me-out-of-here' eyes but the mf is not looking my way. He's staring at Danielle who's glaring at me.

I sighed in defeat.

But before I could even take a step forward, Hanni clung her arms around my shoulder, perfect save.

"How's it going? Mr. Jeon said you'll go against Kazuha's team, I'm praying for you bro," Hanni teased.

I didn't know we'll be up against them, god why? I'm not even athletic why am I here? And against Kazuha too? That gym monster.

I caught a glimpse of Hanni glancing at Minji and Danielle's way before she dragged me out of there

"You're a saviour," I whispered, "But why are you here?"

"I just felt like it besides you're going to play against Kazuha, you know what that means?" She asked excitedly as I raised my brows curiously

She pats my left shoulder, "That means I get to see your ass beat, Haerin." She stated as she laughed hysterically

"Very funny," I replied

"Everyone fall in line, let's warm up!" Mr Jeon whistled three times

All of the players ran like hell, Kai gripped my wrist and pulled me towards him. I bumped on his chest, god damn why is it so hard?

I checked on Hanni, she's seated on one of the benches while chewing popcorn. She's pissing me off with that huge grin of hers.

When there's a competition with another school, Kazuha and me are the first ones to get out of the bench followed by Kai and his friend

Students at other school wonder why our team's mostly made up of girls, we were formed that way. Our university is pretty cool with these things, everyone who works here are open-minded, the students even.

Discrimination about genders, equality and lgbt no longer exists in this safe space

We started off by shooting balls on the hoop by the three-point field goal.

Danielle's pretty bad at it, considering her height she's so bad that's why she's always in the bench

No one knows why she's still here, why she hasn't give up.

I tore my eyes off of her as I gaze at Minji, she's sweating. I used to find so sweating gross but why does it look cool on her?

In the haze of this afternoon I can feel the loose shirt I'm wearing starting to cling to my back. I looked up and squinted my eyes in exhaustion.

The real game hasn't started yet and here I am feeling weak already.

When I opened my eyes, my vision became blurry. My legs are empty and there is a rising nausea from my stomach.

It never ceases to amaze me that the muscles that were working so hard only seconds ago now struggles to hold my weight.

"Ouch!"

If you're not lucky, you're really not. Because right now my calves are cramping and I can't move from pain

I held my leg, muttering every curses I know silently cuz it hurts so bad and I don't want to bring everyone's attention on me

I stagger forward and I couldn't control my walk, I was waiting for my face to meet the polished floor when a pair of hands grabbed my shoulder and put me back to a standing position

"Cramps?"

Of all people, I did not expect Danielle Marsh to come and save my face from the horror of bruises

I nodded my head

She pursed her lips, "Lie down, let's stretch it out, I'll massage it for you."

I quickly shake my head, "Leave me alone,"

I forced myself to stand up but regretted it instantly when the cramping began again

Danielle went on my side and made me cling on her like a loser

"Everybody will think we're friends now," She smirked victoriously

I wanted to roll my eyes but that would only make her happy

"No one would think that way after the rumours going on lately," I scowled

Her forehead creases, "What rumours?"

"You know what I'm talking about,"

"Is it the we're bestfriends rumours or the we're exclusively dating rumours?" She asked nonchalantly

"WHAT?!"
