"I'm taking that summa cum laude spot," Danielle smirked mischievously at Haerin as they entered the cafè
"It's not a position you can take as your own," Haerin retorted indifferently
This day marks the start of finals week, it also marks the day of their last study group session.
"Oh my god, Haerin!"
Hanni jumped on her back and hugged her as tight as she could. Haerin just let her be.
"I'm so nervous right now, what if I don't pass? I'll repeat 4th year? I don't want that, I need to graduate, I'm so sick and tired of college plus you won't be here if that happens 'cuz surely you'll ace it," Hanni's shoulder slumped on the chair, they all sat down in unison and she seems so down
"Stop with the act, Pham Hanni. We all know you'll do well, why do you always bring yourself down when we know better?" Kai munched on his pen, looking out the window feeling a bit irritated
Hanni remained silent, she pouts as she crosses her arms, "I don't know, I don't feel so good with this,"
"How so?" Minji asked while writing, eyes darted at her own paper
Hanni glanced at Danielle's way, "Hey Dani, what do you say we go out right now and have a picnic at the park?"
"I'm in," Danielle immediately replied
"That's so sudden." said Kai
"We're studying," Hyein stated though she seems to agree with the idea just by the tone of her voice
"No one's going out, Hanni." Minji added
They all waited for Haerin's response. She kept reading her notes and when she noticed them looking, she heave a weary sigh
"Fine,"
"Wooaahh, that's a first!" Hanni cheered and fisted her hand in victory
They discreetly packed their things and left the cafè with Hanni leading them
"Why did you agree?" Kai whispered on Haerin's side
She shrugged her shoulders, trying to think of a way out.
"I wanted us to relax since tomorrow will be the start of hell week,"
"That's true, ugh, my head's already hurting when it hasn't even started yet," Kai whined
"Who wants to come with me and get snacks?" Hyein raised her hand cutely
Kai, Minji and Hanni raised their hands as well
"Okay, Dani and Haerin will prepare our spot and mats, we'll meet you there guys!"
Haerin was about to protest when Minji grabbed the three and ran
"Guess it's just you and me," Danielle snickered while kicking rocks on the road
Haerin breathes in, "Obviously,"
The sky seems gloomy and the air's beginning to feel a bit chilly. It didn't take long before the rain descends in little gleam drops of silver
Danielle dragged her to the side of the road where they can stay for awhile without getting wet
Each raindrop made Haerin smile a little, she stretched her hand feeling every cold drops in her palm. In the rain there is serenity, and that's what she loves about it
"You love them," Danielle uttered lovingly
There was a pause where Haerin's trying to figure out if she should answer or not, she's feeling quite lethargic to start an argument with Danielle today
She took a deep breath, "Yeah," She answered
"Are you scared of the thunder?" Danielle inquired, staring at the other girl intently
"Not really,"
Another silence.
"But when I was a kid I used to pretend to be scared," She added
Danielle inched a little closer, "Why?" She asked softly
"I don't know," Haerin wryly chuckled, "Everyone else was,"
Danielle remained silent, Haerin notices and continues
"The adults would all shout or jump or gasp or something, and the kids would cry." She looked away for a moment as she played with her fingers
"I guess I just felt weird for not being scared," She chuckled bitterly, "I mean it's a thunderstorm, there's gonna be a thunder, right? It should be expected.. but I felt left out. I wanted to cry and run and feel scared too, I wanted to be comforted."
"Cause I felt like I was missing out on an essential part of childhood,"
Danielle averted her gaze, "I kind of get what you're saying. But I'd feel pretty cool if I wasn't afraid of thunder,"
"It was cool at first. But no one cared if I was scared. No one really paid attention to me. I was just.. there. I wanted attention. I was a kid. A child. But I was fine. No one pays attention to you when you're fine." Haerin almost choked up as she reminisces her childhood and realizing she's what she is now because of her parents
She wanted to cry but not infront of her. Not infront of Danielle atleast.
"I am a professional ruiner," Danielle began, "It's one of the things I consider myself I'm good at, I do think I'm better at ruining things than most people," She smiled genuinely
"I can ruin someone's day by being in the same room," They both chuckled at that, cuz they know what that meant
Danielle then went serious before saying, "I even seem to ruin my own life, without even trying."
Haerin didn't know why she's telling her this but maybe it's Danielle's way to comfort her.
"I sincerely hope that no one has the displeasure of meeting me," Danielle added with a little smile across her face
Haerin felt they grew a bit closer with that one normal conversation, and there was a feeling where she thought Danielle would hug her so tight but it didn't happen because Kai just came out of nowhere and dragged Danielle away from her
