"Danielle,"
Their head whipped to the other side of the street where Kai is currently standing at. He seems to be in a rush, he looked like he's been awake for days amd he's even wearing his sleepwear outside
"We need to talk," Kai muttered
Danielle nods and he finds it unusual because he expected her to whine and be stubborn about it
"You guys are even closer now than we are, Kai. I'm getting jealous," Hanni hung her arms around the boy's shoulder making Minji look away
"Won't Haerin be jealous?" She added
Haerin tilts her head to the side, appearing to hear what Hanni just said, "Why would I be jealous?"
"I thought Kai's courting you," Hanni retorts finally letting go of Kai
"He's gay."
Kai rolled his eyes, "I told you I'm pansexual,"
Hanni backs away slowly, "Wait what? I thought Kai likes you, he even spilled it on us one time when he was drunk, he said your last name,"
Haerin and Kai exchanged glances, the latter was the first to break the eye contact before dragging Danielle away
"Kang is a common name Hanni, I'm not the only Kang in this world," She mumbled under her breath
They watched the two walk away, Haerin figured Danielle's acting weird 'cause she's not on her usual self. She seemed to be deep in thoughts most of the time and out of reality
The three of them decided to go home, Minji and Hanni would like to follow and investigate what Kai and Danielle will be talking about but with what happened to them earlier makes it hard
"I didn't know you're pan," said Danielle, kicking rocks on their way to god knows where
"I didn't tell anyone because they're not interested," Kai replied, slowing his pace so Danielle could catch up
The latter hums in response before asking, "What important business are we going to talk about that you had to walk out of your house wearing only that?"
Kai faced her and she tried to read what's on his mind but with Kai's glazed look and unreadable expression she gave up
"I think I might know what caused Chaewon to fall into a coma," He said solemnly
Danielle's throat went dry. That's the thing she's been thinking these days, it makes her anxious and worried for the girl hence she feel quite relieved to hear what Kai might say, although she's afraid it'll make things worse
"What caused it?" She queries in a soft and low voice
"Remember when we traveled back here?" Kai began as she nods, "Chaewon was there. She saw us disappear, I thought there was no one there but she showed up just behind you and she saw us,"
Danielle took a deep breath, "Why are you only telling me this now?"
"Because I never thought it's going to be a huge deal," Kai argued
"But how did it affect the present Chaewon when it's the future her that saw us?" Danielle started fidgeting, obviously feeling anxious
Kai bats an eye on her, "Dani, time is simultaneous. The past, the present and the future are all happening at this moment in time, do you understand?"
"And that explains what?"
He facepalmed, "What I mean is... I'm actually not sure with what I came up with but I think the future Chaewon's brain relayed what she saw to our present Chaewon's brain,"
Just when Danielle thought nothing can shock her this revelation made things complicated not that it wasn't in the first place
"That's... not possible," She stammers
Kai chuckled sarcastically, "We traveled back in time... anything is possible."
She shakes her head, composing herself since her mind is in a clutter.
"Is Chaewon going to wake up then?"
"Likely, a year from now maybe?"
"Kai..." She called, "We're from the future... and you said time is simultaneous so where is this year's me and you?"
"Two me can't exist in the same timeline, if we both met it'll cause a feedback loop and if that happens then both of us will be erase from existence," He stated
Danielle grimaced, "You did not answer my question,"
"It doesn't matter."
"Fine. Do you have an idea on what day one year from now will Chaewon wake up?"
"Probably after Haerin's deat—"
"Kai what the fuck?!" She yelled
The boy gave her a quizzical look, "What?"
"Why would you say that?" She scoffed
They stared at each other for a minute or two before Kai looked away, "We both know it'll happen, so why can't you accept it? What? Do you think you can save her?" He laughs
Danielle swallowed the hard lump forming in her throat, tears are clouding her eyes.
"Dani, let's be real. Even if how many times we jump time or even other realities, there is no cure for cancer. Let alone a terminal one," He spoke coldly, his eyes were piercing but it looks in pain as well
"You're in pain. That's why you're hurting me too, right?" Danielle chuckled bitterly, "Because it did happen to you already,"
Kai remained stoic, so Danielle continued
"Haerin has a twin." She revealed, "You liked him but he died of the same illness didn't he? I don't know what you went through or why you helped me... nor do I know why you're hurting yourself by letting me and Haerin fall inlove with each other,"
He shudders, "So you know that I began to like her? Since when?"
"It does not matter! Why would you even fall for your lover's twin?"
"I've visited plenty of alternate realities, in every realities I've come to there is not one where they are both free from cancer, things don't change even if how many times I try to alter it, the outcomes of some changes, yes, but never their illnesses." Kai walks away
"Don't worry, I have no intention of stealing Haerin from you," He grinned, "Because in every realities I've seen... you were there beside her too,"
