on assurances

10 1 1

the girl with shards for a soul

burrowed into herself

closing her eyes from the harsh world

aw, don't give up

you're better than that

it'll get better

they told her

and she wanted so badly

to scream and demand

who were they

to tell her

who she was?

to say

it'll all be fine?

to assume

she still wanted to fight?

because it won't be

she knew that much

so she struck out

a ball of snarls and spikes

until the voices turned hesitant and bitter

until their warmth vanished

until they turned away

and left her,

another broken soul

that lost its battle against this ugly world
