New Beginnings

Act 6 ch 6

"Okay. Babette-cats" Lorelai reads a note she wrote of something to talk to Rory about when they inevitably come back to each other as they walk with Victoria to Luke's.

"Death?" Rory asks. "No" Lorelai shakes her head.

"Adopted another one?" Rory guesses again. "No" Lorelai shakes her head again. "What?" Rory asks her.

"Recorded their meows, did some editing and cut a record of them singing Ring of Fire" Lorelai answers.

"Easily my favorite Babette idea" Victoria comments. "Oh, I started reading Beowulf, that new translation you recommended" Lorelai tells Rory.

"The Seamus Heaney? Good for you" Rory replies. "Yeah. And stopped reading Beowulf, jotted on the same slip three minutes later" Lorelai admits. "Well, you gave it a try" Victoria shrugs.

"Oh, this is a new one! Kirk's got a new hobby. He's-" Lorelai starts.

"Doing Tai Chi?" Rory cuts her off. "How'd you know that?" Victoria asks.

"Because he's doing it right there" Rory points to Kirk, doing Tai Chi on the lawn. "Is it possible for him to do something without looking a little silly?" Lorelai asks her daughters. "He wouldn't be Kirk then" Victoria answers.

"Bendleshnitz?" Lorelai reads.

"That's not English" Rory tells her. "I know. I'll add it to the ones that I can't make out" Lorelai says.

"And-brazzlefrat" she reads another. "Another unreadable one, they're stacking up" Victoria says. As they reach Luke's, Lorelai takes Rory's hand.

"Okay. Now wait out here" Lorelai tells her.

"Why?" Rory asks. "It's a thing. A moment thing" Lorelai answers.

"Just wait here" she says. "Okay" Rory agrees before Victoria and Lorelai enter. "Hey" Luke sees them.

"You ready?" Lorelai asks him.

"For what?" Luke asks. "For this! The moment you've all been waiting for" Lorelai vibrates her tongue.

"What's that?" Victoria laughs. "It's a drum roll" Lorelai replies. "It sounded more like a helicopter" Victoria tells her.

"Well, it's a drum roll, go with it, okay?" Lorelai insists.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Rory Gilmore" she opens the door. "Hi Luke" Rory walks in.

"Hey, Rory, you're back" Luke says as they hug, awkwardly. "I'm back" Rory says happy.

"Good! You look good" Luke tells her. "You look healthy, happy. Huh, here with your mom and sister, all of you here" he continues. "Yeah, it's great, you know! Yay" Luke says before an awkward pause.

"I don't think I've ever said yay before. Sounded weird" he admits.

"A little" Victoria agrees. "Come, sit, sit" Luke says causing them to sit down.

"What was that sound you were making?" Rory asks her mother. "A drum roll" Lorelai answers. "It sounded like a helicopter or something" Rory tells her.

"That's what I said" Victoria gasps.

"Has no one heard a drum roll before?" Lorelai asks them. "Hey, I saved you the best table in case you showed up" Luke says knowing Rory got home last night but not knowing if she'd come by.

"In case? It was mandatory" Rory replies. 0What can I get you? Ah, never mind" Luke says. "I'm going to bring you everything you like. I know what you like" he tells them.

"Sounds good" Rory says.

"Oh, hey! You were with me when I wrote this" Lorelai holds up a note. "Uh, what does it say?" she asks Luke.
