11. Tention

A week had never felt so long. I couldn't stop thinking about Ava and how she must have felt. I felt bad. She had been hurting this all time and no one noticed. I didn't notice.

I tried to call her multiple times but she wouldn't answer so I gave up.

When Monday finally arrived I was hoping I could talk to her. Unfortunately she didn't show up at school that day. Or the day after. In fact, she avoided school the whole week.
So, here I was, locked in my bedroom on a Friday evening.

' Knock, knock, knock. ' I heard.

I didn't answer.

" Can I come in ? " My sister asked from behind the door.

I walked up to the door and opened it. I mentioned to her to come in and she did.

" How are you feeling ? " She asked. " Like an asshole. " I said. " I mean, how didn't I see it. Every sign was in front of me. She needed someone and no one was there. "

She gave me a look of sympathy and on sot on my bed next to me.

" I'm sure she doesn't blame you for this. She just needs a little bit of space. " She tried to reassure me.

I knew she didn't blame me. But I did. I should have seen the signs.

The new school week was finally starting and I had no hopes in seeing Ava. I didn't mind though. After my little talk with Payton, I decided that I was gonna give her space until she felt better.

I entered the school and walked to my locker. As I stopped in front of it I was surprised to see Ava standing in front of hers. She wasn't trying to avoid me. She was looking right into my eyes.

" Hey. " She said.

I was surprised to see that she was talking to me.

I smiled at her. It felt so good to finally hear the sound of her voice again.

" Hi. " I answered. " I wanted to apologize
for- "

" For what ? It wasn't your fault. " I stopped her.

She didn't say anything back. She simply smiled.

I thought a little before asking :

" Do you want to hangout after school ? We could watch a movie at my house. "

" That would be great. " She answered.

It was the end of the day and I was looking for Ava in the hallways. That's when she appeared in front of me.

" Ready to go ? "

She nodded with a simple head movement and we started searching for my car in the school parking lot.

" Do you have any idea of what movie we could watch ? " I asked as we got into the car.

" I was thinking about a horror movie. " She said.
