It hurts! It hurts so much!
Jin Wei never imagined that after many incarnations—after becoming closer to a wallflower that is free from responsibilities and pain—he would once again be subjected to such kind of agony. Despite being an old codger, Jin Wei remained sensitive to physical and emotional sensations, and would not hesitate to express his discomfort when feeling cold or hot.
Furthermore, as a Mob Character, he had no ability to modify or adjust the pain threshold settings.
"What's happening?" He wondered in his heart.
Isn't he just a Mob Character? Wasn't he supposed to lead a simple and carefree existence? He couldn't make sense of the pain he was once again experiencing. Memories flooded his mind, reminding him of the numerous times he was subjected to torment in his previous roles as cannon fodder, where death or self-sacrifice were the only options to progress through the worlds.
The tiny system anxiously hovered near Jin Wei's body, closely tracking his vital signs in real-time. Suddenly, a blue, see-through screen materialized before the silver sphere, revealing that the numbers were dropping and had the potential to dip into negative territory. The system immediately rang the alarm.
「Host, your vital signs are decreasing! Continuing in this state won't be good. Please persist!」
"I know! I can't give up now," Jin Wei thought fiercely. "I still have tasks to complete, and I won't leave this world without fulfilling them."
Despite his resolve, the pain was really unbearable, and he could only clench his teeth in agony, his waist throbbing with the intensity of the injury. He suspected that a rib or two had been broken from the force of the kick. The trafficker didn't discriminate and kicked him without holding back.
In secret, he swallowed a handful of pills, hoping they would help to stabilize his condition. Though the medicine did little to ease the pain, it at least succeeded in halting the bleeding. He only dared to move after confirming that his vital signs had stopped going down.
The people around him didn't see him chowing down medicine pills and only assumed that the Jin Wei is only curling up in pain. The person who kicked him seemed delighted with Jin Wei's response and even launched another kick on his stomach that caused Jin Wei to cough blood.
Laurem's eyes were fixed on the scene unfolding before him, the sound of his own heartbeat ringing loudly in his ears. He had always known Jin Wei as a strong, carefree person, full of life and vitality. Seeing him now in such a beaten and broken state was completely foreign to Laurem.
"Stop it..." Laurem mouthed weakly. Then, as if his body was injected with energy, he shouted louder. "Stop it!"
"You said something? Stop it? You want me to stop?" The man glanced at Laurem and humorously mimed him before kicking the curled-up figure on the ground again.
The need for vengeance swept through Laurem like a tidal wave, obliterating reason and bringing out his atavistic impulses. The pain in his neck vanished in an instant, overtaken by an unfathomable rush of fury that cracked his limbs and drove his muscles to bulge.
The large man holding Laurem detected the sudden shift in the boy's temperament and intended to probe, but it was too late. A sharp object flashed before his eyes, leaving him stunned and unable to respond quickly, as his hand was viciously severed from his arm.
His head rolled to the ground. A geyser of warm blood spurted out, spraying for several moments before the body convulsed and slumped to the ground. The accomplice was spared of the gruesome aftermath since he, too, had lost his life. All he could manage was a single, anguished cry before his life was extinguished.
