Hwang Hyunjin was grateful for the job that he had landed, but it wasn't easy. He had to work twice as hard to make up for his lack of formal education. And with a daughter to take care of, he barely had time for himself. But he was determined to make it work, for Haeun's sake.

One day, while on his lunch break, Hyunjin decided to visit his best friend Seungmin at the publishing firm. They had known each other since college and had been through thick and thin together.

"Hey, Seungmin!" Hyunjin greeted, walking into his friend's office. "How's work going?"

Seungmin looked up from his computer screen and smiled. "It's going well, thanks. How about you? How's the new job?"

Hyunjin shrugged. "It's tough, but I'm managing. And Haeun loves her new school, so that's a relief."

Seungmin nodded. "That's great to hear. Hey, do you want to grab some lunch with me? I have an hour break."

Hyunjin grinned. "Sure, that sounds good."

They walked to a nearby cafe and settled down at a table. They chatted about work, Haeun, and everything in between. It was comforting to be with Seungmin, to have someone to talk to who knew him so well.

As the weeks went by, Hyunjin found himself looking forward to their lunch breaks more and more. They would talk about anything and everything, and it felt like no time had passed since college.

But there was something different about their conversations now. Hyunjin couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was a tension between them that he couldn't ignore. He didn't want to ruin their friendship by acting on his feelings, so he kept quiet.

One day, as they were walking back to the publishing firm after lunch, Seungmin stopped in front of Hyunjin and looked him in the eye.

"Hyunjin, can I ask you something?"

"Of course," Hyunjin replied, feeling his heart race.

Seungmin took a deep breath. "Have you ever thought about us being more than just friends?"

Hyunjin's eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean?"

Seungmin stepped closer. "I mean, have you ever thought about us being in a relationship?"

Hyunjin hesitated. He had thought about it, more times than he cared to admit. But he didn't want to ruin what they had.

"I have, but I don't want to ruin our friendship," Hyunjin said finally.

Seungmin reached out and took Hyunjin's hand. "I don't think it would ruin our friendship. I think it could make it even stronger."

Hyunjin looked at Seungmin, and he saw the truth in his eyes. He felt a weight lifted off his shoulders, knowing that Seungmin felt the same way.

"Okay," Hyunjin said, smiling. "Let's give it a try."

And just like that, they took the first step on the long road to love. It wouldn't be easy, but they had each other, and that was enough.

As they walked back to the publishing firm, hand in hand, Hyunjin couldn't help but feel nervous. He had never been in a relationship with a man before, and he wasn't sure what to expect.

Seungmin must have sensed his hesitation because he squeezed Hyunjin's hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, we'll take it slow."

Hyunjin nodded, grateful for Seungmin's understanding. "I just don't want to mess this up. You're my best friend, and I don't want to lose you."

Seungmin stopped and turned to face Hyunjin. "You won't lose me. I'll always be here for you, no matter what happens."

Hyunjin smiled, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. He knew that Seungmin meant every word.

They arrived back at the publishing firm, but instead of going their separate ways, they walked to Seungmin's office. Seungmin closed the door behind them and turned to face Hyunjin.

"I know this might be awkward, but can I kiss you?" Seungmin asked, his eyes searching Hyunjin's face.

Hyunjin's heart raced at the question, but he found himself nodding. "Yes, please."

And with that, Seungmin leaned in and pressed his lips to Hyunjin's. It was a soft, gentle kiss, but it sent sparks flying through Hyunjin's body. He wrapped his arms around Seungmin's neck, deepening the kiss.

Eventually, they pulled away, their breaths mingling. Hyunjin looked up at Seungmin, his heart swelling with love.

"I never thought I could be this happy again," Hyunjin whispered.

Seungmin smiled, brushing a strand of hair out of Hyunjin's face. "Me neither, but I'm glad we found our way back to each other."

They spent the rest of the afternoon cuddled up on Seungmin's couch, talking and laughing. It felt like they had been together forever, and yet they were only just beginning.

As Hyunjin got ready to leave, Seungmin took his hand and pulled him in for another kiss.

"See you tomorrow?" Seungmin asked, his lips brushing against Hyunjin's.

Hyunjin grinned. "Definitely." And with that, he left, feeling happier than he had in a long time.

The next day, Hyunjin arrived at work with a smile on his face, and his coworkers couldn't help but notice.

"Someone's in a good mood today," his coworker, Jisung, teased.

Hyunjin chuckled, feeling giddy with happiness. "Yeah, I am. I'm just happy."

Jisung raised an eyebrow. "Did something happen?"

Hyunjin hesitated for a moment before deciding to share the news with her. "I'm dating someone."

Jisung's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? Who is it?"

Hyunjin blushed. "It's someone I've known for a long time. His name is Seungmin."

Jisung grinned. "That's great! I'm happy for you."

Hyunjin felt relieved that Jisung was supportive, but he knew that not everyone would be. He had never been in a same-sex relationship before, and he wasn't sure how people would react.

As the day went on, Hyunjin couldn't help but feel self-conscious. He kept wondering if people were looking at him differently, if they knew about his relationship with Seungmin.

But to his surprise, nothing changed. His coworkers treated him the same, and no one brought up his relationship. It was a relief, but also a bit disappointing. He wanted to shout from the rooftops about how happy he was with Seungmin, but he didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

During his lunch break, Hyunjin called Seungmin to tell him about his day.

"It was good, but kind of uneventful," Hyunjin said, feeling a bit deflated.

Seungmin chuckled. "That's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, it's nice to have a quiet day."

Hyunjin nodded, feeling grateful for Seungmin's perspective. "Yeah, I guess you're right. How was your day?"

Seungmin's voice softened. "It was better now that I'm talking to you."

Hyunjin felt his heart swell with love. "You're such a smooth talker."

Seungmin laughed. "I'm just telling the truth. I miss you."

Hyunjin smiled, feeling the same way. "I miss you too. But we'll see each other soon."

And with that, they said their goodbyes, feeling a sense of warmth and comfort knowing that they had each other, no matter what.
