By some force of luck, or stupidity -no one was sure- Garreth Weasley managed to make it into Advanced potions. The class was made up of mostly seventh years, with a few of the sixth years mixed in. Any sixth years that were in the class were high achievers. Sebastian always excelled at potions, and I bet he would've been one of the sixth years in the class if not for everything that happened the year prior.

"I bet he won't make it halfway through the class without blowing something up," Ominis nudged me, pointing to Garreth.

"Oh, let's give him the benefit of the doubt," I giggled.

Sebastian came in right before the start of the class, and sat down at the table behind Ominis and I, next to Poppy. I turned around and greeted him. Poppy gave me a look; probably surprised to see us talking again. She was one of the people who heard me complain about him the most. I'd always exchange the most letters with her over the breaks, so Poppy knew me and my issues well. After fifth year, she even let me come stay with her and her Grandma for a month. It was really nice; we spent a lot of time in her and her Grandma's vivarium, spending time with her magical beasts. It really helped take my mind off of everything at the time.

"Who let Garreth into this class?" Sebastian said. "It won't belong until he blows something up."

"Ominis said the same thing," I laughed. "I said that we should give him a chance. Maybe he's gotten better over the summer."

"His Aunt probably wanted him in the class, so he's in it. He most likely didn't have to have the O.W.L scores for this class like the rest of us did," Imelda interjected. She was seated at the table directly to the right of us.

Hopefully Garreth wasn't able to hear what was being said about him, though I bet nothing anyone says would make him doubt his abilities. Even though one of my very first memories of him was the fact that he managed to make his potions launch fireworks in the classroom and I almost got in trouble for assisting him, I didn't doubt that he knew what he was doing when it came to potions. He just liked to experiment on his own just a little too much.

Professor Sharp entered the classroom and headed up to the front of the class. He pulled the lid off of a cauldron and the smell of the potion inside wafted across the classroom.

It smelled like dampened Earth after a light rain, mixed with the scent of pine, and even a hint of mint. It was probably the best thing I'd ever smelled in my life. It smelled like somewhere you'd call home. It was comforting

"That smells amazing," Poppy said. "Like lemon drops!" I was about to tell her that's not what I smelled, when Ominis piped up.

"Really? It smells more like a flower garden to me," Ominis said.

I heard a group of girls in the front of the class giggling to themselves. I heard a Hufflepuff girl mention Sebastian's name. "It smells like him," she giggled. "I'm serious!" her friends were nudging her playfully, all laughing along. I don't know why, but I burned up at the sound of hearing his name on the lips of another girl.

How would she know what he smelled like anyways?

"This, class," Professor Sharp started in. "Is one of the most powerful love potions. It's called Amortentia. It mimics the scent of what you love the most, or rather, who."

My thoughts returned back to that Hufflepuff girl in the front. She was still giggling as Sharp spoke. How did she know what Sebastian smelled like? I couldn't even recall what his scent was, and I'd spent pretty much an entire year at his side.

"This potion can be deadly, if used for malicious purposes," Sharp went on. "Since it mimics the scent of the thing they love most, they will do almost anything for the person who uses this against them. Though I don't encourage the use of this potion, I still feel the need to stress the importance of knowing about it. There are some wizards who will use this to control others."
