🍎 Wally x non-binary gardener reader 🍏

I was new to the neighborhood. my house was quaint, though cozy. I hadn't really gotten to know everyone that well. The closest I've come to talking to anyone is going down to the shop a while away from the neighborhood and purchasing some gardening items from the tall caterpillar man.

The sun had just begun to set when I walked out into the shrubby forest with a small shovel and gloves. I had planned to possibly collect some ferns and flowers in the forest. Perhaps if I got lucky, I would find a vegetable or fruit I could take the seeds from. 

After a while of walking, I happily spotted a blooming pink hibiscus flower arising from a patch of  dim sunlight. I bent down and began gingerly cutting out the the flower, carefully trying to avoid the roots. 

Suddenly, I heard a deep, menacing growl behind me. My blood immediately ran cold as I slowly,  shakily turned behind me. The only thing behind me were the pitch-black shadowed trees of the forest...

A beat of silence past before a pair of eyes flashed from the darkness, glowing a brilliant red. The growl continued, getting louder.

With a stammering yelp, I got up. And with one last look behind me, I began running as fast as I could into the deep forest.

I kicked leaves out after me as my breath grew shallow and fast. I could feel the presence behind me, right at my heals, chasing me...

I ran blindly, not knowing where or hoe long I've been running. But soon, I was awaken from my running when ran myself into a thick-trucked tree. Hard.

I groaned as I rubbed my head, the pain searing through my body from my ears to my feet. I fluttered open my eyes to see another puppet standing over me. Leaning against the same tree I ran into and tossing a sugarcrisp apple in his left hand.

As I turned my head a bit, I realized I was in a flourishing apple orchard, the setting sun casting brilliant shadows behind the trees and the pink clouds in the sky swimming off into the horizon.

"Hey there." He said with a cat-like smile.

I struggled to get up, my vision blurry and my head swirling. The guy reached out his hand, which I took reluctantly and got up. He smiled even more and looked into my eyes- "What a graceful entrance...may I ask you your name?" 

"Umm...y/n." I said, still embarrassed from me running blindly into the tree right where this guy was standing. He must think I'm an idiot...

As if he read my mind, he patted my hand in comfort. "Don't be embarrassed, we all have run into a tree at least once..." He looked down at my hand, then up at me. His calmness almost sent shivers up my spine. "Gloves, hm? Are you a gardener?" He asked. My hand still in his, I was too afraid to pull away.

"Um, yeah...Yeah I have a garden. I just came here to see if I could find any shrubs or seeds to fertilize the soil." I said, trying not to forget my words and get distracted by this guy staring at me. Man, he loves eye contact.

"That's great, My name Is Wally. Wally Darling." He said, finally pulling his hand away and taking the sugarcrisp apple from his other and giving it to you. "Here, this should help, the seeds are very nutritious and soil-rich. It should get your garden growing in no-time."

I slightly blushed at the gesture. And Wally could see it. "I heard there was someone new in the neighborhood...I'm glad I got to meet you." He said in a deep voice, which made me blush even more.

He chuckled at my response, and took my hand. "Well, the night is setting in...should we head back?" He asked. "Oh, yes. Thank you...do you know the way back?" I asked. He took my hand and began walking back the way which I ran. "I know this forest well, we'll be back in no time..."

Me and Wally arrived at my house, the stars above shining a their brilliant lights. I stepped up the porch to my house and looked back to smile at Wally. "Thank you for taking me home, Wally. Good night." 

"Good night dear, hopefully I'll be seeing you around more..." he smirked and bowed, walking away into the night. With a final blush, I scoffed and shut the door behind me.
