Julie and I had been together for a little over three months now, I believed. I was a little daunted by her always uppity energy when I first moved into the neighborhood, but I as got to know her and eventually become much more close to her, I've seen her calm and rational attitude radiate to everyone she knew.

Julie had invited me over quite early in the morning. As I stood at her doorstep, the time was 8:30 in the morning. I knocked on the door, which was immediately met with Julie slamming the door open and wrapping her arms around me. "You arrived just on time!" She giggled with delight. I hugged her back warmly.

Julie took my hand and led me inside. I looked around, colorful balloons filled with confetti line the corners of her walls as streams of colorful paper hung from neatly places pieces of tape on the ceiling. Julie sat me down at the kitchen table and clapped her hands together happily. "Happy birthday, honeycrumbs!" She placed a kiss on my cheek as I blushed heavily. "Gosh, I near forgot my own birthday. Thank you so much Julie..." I said, looking around the decorated house fondly.

"Of course! I would never forget your birthday! In fact, I have every neighbor's birthday marked on the calendar. She chimed, pointing to the calendar near the fridge. Like she said, the words 'y/n's birthday!' Was painted in red pen on the day of the month with bunches of hearts also drawn around it. Howdy's birthday was decorated in the same style only ten days away from mine.

"We're gonna have a party later, but I thought we could enjoy the morning together! I even made us something!" She hurriedly searched through her fridge and finally pulled out a plate and placed it on the table. A small cake, just enough for me and Julie, sat in front of us. A tan, fluffy bread in a donut-like circle drizzled with what I expected to be honey drizzled over it. From what I could tell, it was angelcake. My favorite.

Julie sat across from me as my skin began to crawl with guilt and heat. Julie smiled at me sweetly, with the brightest, loving eyes I could imagine. It made me feel even worse. I rubbed the back of my neck and avoided eye contact. Julie saw my nervous demeanor and she began to wear an expression of concern. "Is something wrong?" She asked gently.

"Well...there may have been something I haven't told you, Julie...." I said, gripping and um gripping my sweaty palms. Julie gazed at me with a still worried expression, nonjudgmentally waiting for what I has to say.

I took a deep breath in and out. "I have type one diabetes, so if I eat too such sugar, or exceed my rational sugar intake, I could easily get very sick. I've already met my intake from something I had last night and breakfast form this morning..." a beat of silence passed. I took a breath to start apologizing and immediately had the wind knocked out of me.

Julie had left from her chair and wrapped her arms around me. I fell back in my chair, though luckily had a little cat bed to cushion my fall. Julie hugged me tightly. Mumbling apologies under her breath and she tightened her grip. I smiled and patted her head. She sat up and gazed at me. "I am so  sorry y/. I really didn't know. If I had known I of course would not  have made you it. Please forgive me..." she mumbled, her eyes becoming glassy as she looked into mine.

For once, I took her  in my arms and hugged her tightly. "You did such a sweet thing. I couldn't be happier..." Julie hugged me back. "I wish you could halve confessed this to me sooner..." she sniffed. "Me too, I'm sorry..." I whispered.

We sat there, hugging each other for a long while until I spoke up again. "I'll probably be able to have a bit tonight though, at the party." Julie sat up again and wiped her eyes. She smiled at me again sweetly. "Please don't overdo it. I want you to stay healthy." She nuzzled her nose to mine.

"I won't. Pinky promise." We interlocked our pinky fingers together and she gave me a kiss on the cheek, smiling. "Happy birthday, my love." I smiled back affectionately...
