I flew down the dusty dirt road as top speed, my breath coming out in short gasps as I neared Howdy's shop. The sun was bright and bathing the neighborhood with golden light and warmth, the birds and insects chirping and singing in joy of springtime finally rolling around.
I reached Howdy's shop and slammed open the door, then rushed to the counter and slammed both of my hands on the counter, making an unsuspecting Howdy jump in fear and slip, luckily catching himself on his mop before he hit the ground. "Howdy! I need advice!" I yelled in a rushed voice. Howdy clung to his mop handle, still in shock. "Sally! I told you not to come barging into my shop like a storm august!" Howdy huffed, annoyed.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry but listen! I have a huge problem. There's this person in the neighborhood that I think I may...have feelings for. But I don't know how to express it to them! Every time I try to talk I just stutter and end up doing something weird like picking up a random rock and handing it to them...AHHH I LOOK SO DUMB!" I bury my face in my arms on Howdy's counter.
"Well, why'd ya come to me about it?" He asked, leaning his mop against the wall behind him and leaning on the counter.
"Because you're the only one I feel comfy talking to you about this stuff Howdy! You make chit-cat all day! You're an everyman!" Howdy smiled. "I guess that's true. So, you think you like this person?" Howdy raised an eyebrow, smiling gently.
"I know I like them, but I don't know how to show it! They're really pretty and smart and cool...I could never compare..." I groaned loudly. "Sally, what are you talking about? You're nice and smart and thoughtful, and you brighten everyone's day! No pun intended." He smiled even more, and I couldn't help but join him.
"That's nice, but I need some way that I can tell them I like them without looking like a dummy..." Howdy tapped his chin in thought. "From personal experience, I'd say just be kind to them like you do everybody. Ask them their hobbies and take interest in the words they say. And the eventually once they've warmed up to you, you can ask them out on a date."
I scoffed. "Personal experience ya say?" Howdy crossed his upper arms, keeping the lower two at his sides. "Yes. I'm giving you advice aren't I?" I drummed my fingers on the counter. "Sorry, sorry..."
"If ya don't mind me asking, would this person you like be...y/n, perhaps?" I gasped dreamily, placing a hand on my heart and leaning back. I then pointed a finger at him. "Accusations! False accusations!" Howdy grinned. "Is it false, though?"
I gave up the act and sighed tiredly. "No, it's not false...but how did you know?" Howdy rolled his eyes, still smiling. "Are ya kiddin' me? Remember last week just outside the shop then you slipped and feel into y/n's arms, then ran away and immediately hit your face on a tree branch? Don't think I didn't see the whole thing go down."
My skin crawled with humiliation as I rubbed the back of my neck. "Oh man..." I sighed. Howdy waved his hand in dismissal. "Don't worry about it. Just be nice and thoughtful like you always are, and I bet they'll see how much of a neat person you are, if they don't already."
I took a deep breath and smiled, my confidence growing. "Thanks Howdy! I'll see ya later!" I rushed out of the shop, Howdy looked like he tried to say something before I left, but I was already running down the road.

Luckily, the park today was empty. Rays of sunlight filtered through the trees and speckled the green grass. I sat on a polished oak bench with my favorite book in hand (if you don't like reading like me your on your phone idk)
I glanced over at me and saw Sally sitting next to me with a large smile on her face. I jumped a bit an yelp, which immediately made Sally's smile fade. She waved her hands in front of herself, tripping over her words as she apologized. "Oh my goodness y/n I'm so sorry! I totally didn't mean to!"
I set down my book (or phone) down next to me and gave Sally an apologetic smile. "No! Don't be sorry! I'm just a really jumpy person." I chuckled. Sally fiddled with her skirt. "Really? Again, I did any mean to scare you..."
"No apology needed. How are you?" I asked, moving on from the awkward greeting. Sally smiled. "Good, good...you?" She seemed rushed, and I could tell that she wasn't quite focused on her words. She avoided eye contact as her gaze was focused on a tree in the near distance."Are you ok, Sally? You seem tense. More tense then usual..." Sally's gaze snapped back to me as she nervously giggled. "What? I do? Ha! Sorry, sorry. I don't mean to be..."
"Are you sure? There's a pressure point you can push to-" I cut myself off when I realized that Sally's face was getting really red and sweat was dripping off of her sunrays. I pulled out a bottle of water from my backpack next to me and handed it to Sally.

I hesitantly took the water y/n handed to me and I sipped it, panicking on the inside. I should probably ask them if they want to go on a date before I flatline. I took a deep breath in and handed them back the water. "I was wondering...if maybe..." I glanced at them again and squeezed my eyes shut, clenching my fists.

my eyes widened at Sally's stumbled confession. A best of silence passed before Sally unclenched her fists and peeked at me, scared to see my reacting. I smiled gently at her. "I would love to." I said calmly. Sally looked me in the eyes, a light blush still dusted across her cheeks. "Wait, really?" She gasped.
"Of course." I said, chuckling from her dramatic, though flustered reaction. "I just- I thought that you would say no since I'm always so...awkward around you." She said, lightly seining her feet off the bench. "I understand. Sometimes words are hard to come by." I said, looking off into the distance.
"When would you want to go on this...date?" I asked, glancing at Sally and smiling. She tapped her chin. "Is Sunday alright? I need time to prepare."
"That sounds great." Sally glanced at me again. "Umm...may I sit closer to you?" She asked meekly, I blushed a bit, flattered. "I would like that." Sally scooted closer to me and put her legs up onto the bench.
I leaned my head onto her shoulder, which not only flustered her, but she said nothing. We sat there for a long time, looking off into the sunny distance beyond the trees.
