I changed y/n to a dude I'm not sorry

I just quit my job at the post office just south of the neighborhood. Ever since i worked there, my hours have been atrocious and my mental and physical health had continued to decline. I still had a small amount of money left over i could use until i found another job, but for now, i was circling open jobs in newspapers with a florescent red pen...

I soon heard a soft knock of the door and tiredly got up to answer it. When i opened the door, I saw my old coworker- Eddie- standing before me.

He seemed surprised to see me, flustered even. I nervously smiled and handed me my letter. "So...h-how have you been doing y/n?" he asked.

I shrugged. "Ok, I guess..." We stared at each other for a long, awkward while before he adjusted to large mail-filed burlap sack across his shoulder and smiled. "Welp! I'll be off. Seeya y/n!" He said hurriedly, but i stepped out my door and caught up to him. "Wait! Um...do you think i can walk with ya Eddie? It seems you need a bit of help anyway..." I smiled, pointing at his almost overflowing mail bag.

He grinned, pleased at the offer. "Thanks! I would love to have someone to talk to."

I smiled and began walking beside him down the trail. We where a little while away from the neighborhood, so we had time to talk.

It was a bright, sunny day. Colorful butterflies and birds soaring and fluttering above us, the air was dry, though not exactly heavy. The clouds rolling in from the horizon promised a storm in the later days.

"So...why did ya quit?" Eddie asked, glancing down at me. I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck. "I just had terrible hours. Working nine to two AM didn't exactly help my mood." He acknowledged with a nod. "Sorry about that. The boss is usually hard on the little guys." He chuckled. "Who are you calling a little guy?" A crossed my arms and smiled at him teasingly. Which earned another chuckle out of him.

We walked for a while more, I looked up at Eddie, who was smiling into the distance

I was majorly panicking on the inside. Oh my god what is wrong with me???? He probably thinks I'm so weird and awkward...Oh lord why did I have his rout today? I don't know what to say, what do I do??

I noticed that Eddie suddenly started sweating beads of sweat down his face, though he was still smiling. "Uhh..Eddie?" I said, tapping on his burlap sack. He looked down at me. "Yep?" He asked. I began to grow worried. "Do you need water or something? You look...odd..."

as if he realized just how nervous he looked, Eddie wiped his forehead with the back of his wrist and let out a deep breath. "No y/n...I'm fine...I had a big bottle of water before I left the post office..." I raised an eyebrow. "Then...what's the matter?"

Oh lord...should I tell him now? I mean, he doesn't work with me anymore so it wouldn't be too weird- but at the same...

"Eddie," he said, stopping me. "You can tell me anything. You know I'm not one to judge." He smiled sweetly, and I almost felt my heart stop. "Well..." I rubbed the back of my neck. "There's this...person I like. A guy, to be more specific..."

"Really?" he said, continuing to walk ahead of me. "So, what's this guy like?"

Eddie struggled with his words. "Well...he has h/c hair (if you don't have hair then he just doesn't say that), e/c eyes, and-" He hovered his hand at right about my height. "Is really short." He grinned, and I realized where his charade was going.

"Well, do you know his name?" I asked. He smiled, blushing from ear to ear. "Yes, yes I do. Wanna guess?" I tapped my chin in fake thought. "Oh man, I really don't have an answer. Guess I'll never know."

Eddie's smile faded as his head dropped. I smiled and giggled. "Oh Eddie...Is it me?" I asked, a bit embarrassed to guess myself (even though I knew it was right.)

Eddie picked me up and hugged me tightly, almost squeezing all the air out of me. "You guessed!" He twirled me around before setting me down, when I retrieved my balance I looked at him and chuckled. "You were so obviously flustered Eddie, you're terrible at hiding it."

Eddie blushed again and touched his fingers together. "Really? Heh, I guess so..." i saw that he felt embarrassed, so I grabbed his hand and began walking again. "Just because you're terrible at hiding it doesn't mean it's cute." I leaned my head against the burlap sack as he nervously chuckled  to himself...
