TW: slight hysteria, sickness

For the purpose of the story let's say that Eddie has a house separate from his office

I FEEL SO BAD FOR HOW EDDIE IS TREATED WHY DOES NOBODY FW HIM AT ALL HES SO SWEET

~y/n pov~

I had been delivering the mail for a while now. It wasn't exactly my dream job working in postal service, but it was a job nonetheless. It paid pretty well, and I was happy.

I worked in a local post office in town a couple miles from the neighborhood, and I had only met Eddie a few times. He seemed nice enough, a large fellow with a cheery smile and welcoming demeanor. And even though we didn't cross paths frequently, I admired him for his perseverance. I mean, running your own one-person post office was hard work.

I rarely had to deliver to the neighborhood, but sometimes when Eddie was indisposed, we would receive packages or mail addressed to the neighbors that we delivered. Today was one of those days.

I hopped on my bike and sped out of town, mail  satchel secured neatly to the bike's body. I soon reached the neighborhood, waving to howdy through this storefront window as I passed. I reached behind me to my satchel where I pulled out the envelope, bike slightly wobbling along the dirt road as my balance wavered. I caught myself as I looked at the address, and it was...Eddie's house?

I was confused for a moment, then shrugged. I suppose even the mailmans gotta get his mail...

I skidded to a halt in front of Eddie's house, hopping off my bike and letting it drop to the dusty ground as I held the envelope in my hand. I stepped up to his porch and rang the doorbell, waiting patiently for him to open it.

After a few moments passed I rang it again. No answer. "Hello? Eddie?" I tried calling out, still no answer. Maybe he's sick? I could just leave it on the porch, it's not like anyone in this neighborhood would steal it...

I bent down to leave it on the doormat before I saw the slightest creak in the door. I tilted my head, my confusion growing. I narrowed my eyes to the slit and saw only complete pitch black. But it's so sunny outside...are all his blinds shut?

My stomach turning with guilt, though a burning curiosity, I hesitantly brushed my fingertips against the colorful painted door and pushed it open.

A void of pitch-darkness is what I was met with. No sunlight, no sound, nothing. I felt my skin crawl and I took in a deep breath. I turned around, making sure none of the other neighbors were watching me before I took a lingering step inside...

The door slammed behind me and my blood halted in my body. I clenched and unclenched my fists to try to calm myself, forcing my feet to step through the darkness. "Eddie?...are you home?..." I meekly called out, albeit a bit terrified if I was to be answered.

Finnaly, a light as I passed a corner. Candlelight. I restrained myself from biting my nails as I licked the candle up, using it to guide me as the firelight grew. And after I rounded a few more corners of growing paperwork and candlelight- I found Eddie hunched over his desk, head in his hands and one slit of bright sunlight from the blinds of his window above the desk casting a line of glow over his focused, though troubled eyes.

I froze in place, my feet rooted to the ground as I placed the candle in my hand on the ground next to me. "Eddie?" I called out, he didn't even flinch. He seemed to be mumbling to himself, lightly cursing. This is so bizarre... I thought to myself as I took a few cautious steps towards him. He still did not take notice of me.

"Ed-" I placed my hand on his shoulder and he immediately shot up from his chair, swinging around and stumbling back on his desk, facing me with shaky eyes wide and breath racing. I stumbled to the floor and sat up on my hands, speechless from his sudden action.

We both collected ourselves, I stood myself up as eddie straighten his tie and brushed the sweat off his brow. "Woah there sailor...what's got you so jumpy?..." I joked weakly, still trying to catch breath from the startle. "I am so  sorry y/n, I-I've just been so overwhelmed...I really don't know what's wrong with me..." he rubbed his hands together as he glanced off to the side, his eyes darting around as if there was somebody hunting him. "What are you doing here?" He asked carefully.

"Well, I actually have a letter for you." I held it in front of me and squinted in the faint light to read the sender. "It's from...Home, off all people!" I looked up, my blood turning cold as Eddie's face was filled with terror. He clenched his multicolored tie in his fist as his cheats heaved with breath.

He shakily reached out and took the letter from me, placing it on his desk and pushing it under the other papers he had. All was silent for a moment as the mailman still avoided eye contact.

"Eddie, you're worrying me..." I confessed in a quiet voice, his gaze fell to the floor as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Listen-I'm gonna go come back tomorrow with...soup or something. That's what people eat when they're sick, right?" You rambled on, almost talking to yourself as Eddie looked at you in a slightly confused fashion.

"Yeah, that's it. Open some windows and drink some water. I'll be back!" You called as you ran out the door, the sun immediately flashbanging you as you adjusted to the light. You stood your bike up and raced down the dirt road, mind still racing from the strange interaction, but filled with worry for your fellow mailman...
