I woke up to the throbbing pain in my head. It was a dull ache that refused to go away. My eyes slowly opened, and I tried to sit up, but realized that I was lying on a cold stone floor. I shivered and rubbed my arms, trying to get warm. As I looked around, my eyes landed on a group of boys staring at me. They were all wearing tattered clothes and looked dirty, like they hadn't had a shower in days.

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. I didn't recognize any of them, and the fact that they were all men made me feel uneasy.

"Why would they send a girl?"

"Maybe it's a gift? You know, so we can have a little fun with her." Some boys joked, and the others laughed along with them.

"What's going on?" I asked, my voice trembling.

The boys continued to laugh, making me feel even more uneasy. I noticed two boys standing a bit further away, looking at me with shock and confusion. "Where am I?" I yelled at them. They just stared at me and then at each other. They had no idea what was going on either.

"Hey, shut up!" One of the boys yelled, finally taking action to stop the others from making rude comments. He was tall and muscular, with short-cropped dark hair and intense blue eyes that seemed to be scrutinizing my every move. He had a stern expression on his face, and his broad shoulders and sturdy build made him look imposing. I sensed an air of authority about him, as if he was used to being in charge. I couldn't help but feel intimidated by him.

I jumped at the sudden outburst, feeling my heart racing even faster. I backed away, not sure who I could trust.

"Hey, it's okay. You're safe here," the boy said, approaching me slowly with his hands raised in a calming gesture. But I didn't believe him, feeling like I was in danger. I punched the boy in the face and ran away, looking around frantically at the maze walls towering above me. I heard the boys calling after me and quickly ran away from their sights.

I found a hidden spot away from everyone and tried to collect my thoughts. I didn't remember who I was or how I got there. What was my name? Who were my parents? Did I even have any parents?

A loud noise from a branch breaking interrupted my thoughts and made me jump. It was one of the boys who wasn't able to speak before. I couldn't help but feel my heart skip a beat as I looked at the boy with sandy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes.

He held his arms up, "I'm not going to hurt you." Oh great, he had a British accent. Now he's not only cute but charming as well. I didn't say anything and let him approach. "Where am I?" I asked him. "You're in a place called the Glade," he explained.

"Are you okay?" he asked softly.

"I don't know who I am or where I am," I confessed, feeling tears welling up in my eyes.

"It's okay, we'll figure it out together. You must be hungry. Let me take you to get some food," he offered.

I hesitated but eventually nodded, feeling a rumble in my stomach. I followed him, still feeling scared and confused, but trusting him just a little bit more.

As we walked through the Glade, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. "So, what exactly is this place?" I asked Newt, hoping to ease my growing anxiety.

"This is the Glade," he replied calmly. "It's where we live."

As I tried to process this information, another question surfaced in my mind. "How did we end up here? Why can't I remember anything?"

Newt's expression softened as he replied, "Nobody remembers their past before coming here. It's like our memories have been wiped clean. We just woke up one day and found ourselves here."

I couldn't help but feel a sense of despair at the thought of having no recollection of my past life. "And what do you all do here?"

"We survive," Newt said, his tone becoming more serious. "We work together to maintain the Glade and explore the maze. It's full of deadly creatures, so we have to be careful."

Confused by his mention of a maze, I asked, "The maze? What's that?"

Newt hesitated before answering, his gaze drifting away. It was clear that he wasn't quite ready to discuss the topic just yet. I soon learned that his limp was due to an injury he sustained in the maze just a week prior. Alby had just given him the role of second-in-command, and I was his first task as part of his new duties.

"It's a giant maze that surrounds the Glade," he explained after a moment. "It's full of twists and turns, and nobody's ever made it out alive."

My heart sank as I thought about what kind of creatures could possibly inhabit such a treacherous place. "What kind of creatures are in there?" I asked, hoping that the answer wouldn't be as terrifying as I imagined.

"Grievers," Newt replied, his voice lowering to a near whisper. "They're mechanical creatures that are programmed to kill. They're fast, deadly, and they're the reason why we can't leave the Glade."

The thought of facing such a dangerous foe made me feel like I couldn't possibly survive. "I don't think I can do this," I said, feeling defeated. "I don't want to die here."

Newt placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Hey, don't worry. We'll keep you safe. We've all got each other's backs. We'll find a way out of here, together."
