I slowly opened my eyes, squinting at the bright light shining above me. She felt disoriented and confused, unable to remember how she ended up in the med-jacks. Jeff, one of the med-jacks, greeted her with a smile.

"Well hello sleeping beauty, glad you're awake," he said, gesturing for Clint to go and get Newt. He handed me a glass of water. "How are you feeling?" he asked her "headache" she answered, drinking the water.

Newt rushed in a few moments later, his eyes wild with worry and anger. "What were you thinking, Y/n? Do you have any idea on how bloody worried I was?" he yelled at me, pacing back and forth.

My heart sank as Newt continued to scold me. I couldn't help but start to cry at his words, feeling guilty for causing him so much stress. "I'm sorry, Newt. I just felt like I had to go in. I don't know why," I said, showing him the note I had found. Newt's expression softened as he read the note, realizing that it wasn't my fault. He felt bad for making me cry, but he was still angry at her for putting myself in danger.

He just stormed out, leaving me there in tears. He gathered all the gladers to discuss this.

"The reason why y/n went into the glade is because one of you slintheads gave her this note!" He showed them the note that I had given him. Everyone gasped and looked at each other, mumbling amongst themselves. "Everybody, shut it!" Newt said.

"So what are we going to do to punish her?" Gally asked. Newt scoffed, "This meeting isn't about whether to bloody punish her or not." Gally's face twisted into a scowl as he glared at Newt. "One of our most important rules is 'never go beyond the walls.' She just broke that rule, and we aren't going to punish her?"

"She was bloody forced!" Newt snapped.

"No, she was told to go into the maze. She could've made the decision herself to go inside or not. Why didn't she tell you about the note, huh? What is she hiding?"

Newt's brow furrowed as he struggled to make sense of Gally's words. He was right. It was y/n's decision, and no one had forced her. He had told her strictly not to go inside the maze. Why would she break his rules? However, he was too stubborn to admit that Gally was right. So he did something he regretted until the day he died.

"Come on, Gally. Please show some compassion."

Gally looked at him in confusion. "She's the only girl in a place full of men. She gets a note telling her to do something. She's obviously scared. Scared of what would happen if she disobeyed a place full of men." Gally's face softened with a sigh.

"You're right," Gally finally said.

"That's why I don't think we should ban her. It will only make things worse for her," Newt said. Gally nodded, and it wasn't long after that the meeting ended. They couldn't figure out who wrote the note, but they decided to forget about it.

Later that night, Newt couldn't sleep. He managed to doze off, but was jolted awake by a nightmare. He dreamed that I had gone into the maze and was attacked by a griever. He knew it was just a dream, but he couldn't shake off the worry that I wasn't okay. He got dressed and made his way to my hut. He softly knocked on the door and when I opened it, relief flooded through his body.

"What's wrong, Newt?" I asked, still half asleep.

"Just needed to make sure you were okay," Newt said.

I wrapped my arms around his torso, feeling his warmth. "I'm fine. I'm sorry for worrying you," I said, letting him into the hut.

"It's just..." Newt trailed off, shrugging. "Do you know why I'm limping?" he asked, drawing my attention to his legs.

"I've heard you injured it when you were a runner and it forced you to stop," I said.

"That's not true. I chose to stop," he clarified, sitting down on my hammock. "A few months before you showed up in the glade, I... I tried to take my own life," he said, barely above a whisper.

My eyes widened in shock. "What? Why?" I asked, my heart racing with concern.

Newt took a deep breath before answering. "It's complicated. But long story short, I was in a really dark place. I felt like there was no way out. And then I fell... I fell from a height that should have killed me, but I survived. But my leg didn't. It's never been the same since."

I felt a mix of sympathy and admiration for him. "Newt, I had no idea. I'm so sorry," I said, hugging him tightly.

We hugged for what felt like an eternity, and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. "That's why I was so scared of you going inside the maze, y/n," Newt finally said, his heart racing.

He pulled away from the embrace and looked at me nervously. "I love you, y/n," he confessed. "And I don't think I ever realized it until you showed up in the glade. Before that, I didn't see much point in living. But now... now I can't imagine my life without you."

I looked into his eyes, feeling a mix of emotions. But then I realized that I loved him too, more than I had ever loved anyone else. And so I leaned in and kissed him, sealing our love in that moment.

Our lips kissed in sync, I could feel his tongue dancing along with mine. His left hand cupping my cheek, his other one going underneath my night top. My hands went to his neck as he pulled away from my lips and went to my neck, finding my soft spot. He leaned me down so I laid down at the hammock with him above me.

A few moments later, we both were asleep. Newts' arms were wrapped around me and held me close. I rested my head gently on Newt's shoulder. Our necks are filled with hickeys.
