I sat on my bed, completely still as I processed what had just happened. Lee Know's confession left me stunned and frozen on my bed, my gaze not wavering from the little spot on my wall that it had settled on. It felt like my world had rolled to a stop around me, everything happening in slow motion. Until the alarm blaring through the house snapped me from my daze.
I ran down the hall to the operations room, blushing when I made eye contact with Lee Know. I avoided his gaze as I went to stand next to him. The screen went on and the commanders face came up. He seemed very chipper. It made me suspicious.
"Good afternoon agents. I have a mission for all of you. Half of you are going on a stake out, and the rest of you are going to interrogate someone we brought in earlier this week."
The rest of the commander's sentence dissolved into white noise as I looked at his clothes. He was wearing full military uniform, but that wasn't what interested me. His medals were what caught my attention. I had seen many medals before, most of which were on commanders' or generals' jackets.
But one medal I had never seen before. And it bothered me. It didn't look like the others and was on a strange place on the jacket. My thoughts dissipated when I heard the commander telling us we were dismissed. Then the screen went black.
"Okay. So, I guess we better get going then," Chan said. I looked over at him, feeling confused.
"So, Ava, Lee Know, Han and Jeongin, I'll meet you guys at the car. The rest of you, good luck."
At that, Chan disappeared out of the operations room without another word, leaving me even more confused. I looked over at Lee Know but regretted it when my cheeks heated up at the look in his eyes. I knew I would have to face him eventually, but every time I looked at him, his confession rang out through my mind so loud I was afraid everyone would hear it. So, I stuck to avoiding him until I was a bit more at ease with his confession.
I slipped down the pole, my gaze meeting that of Han. He came over to me, seeming confused and worried.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked softly.
"Yeah, why?"
"I was just wondering because you seem a bit out of it. Like your mind is elsewhere."
"Well, it is. But I should be fine once we get on the road."
He smiled at me before walking off again. I activated my suit on my comm. I was startled when Chan suddenly came sliding down the pole, landing on his feet with a thud on the ground next to me. Then, he was off again, out the door and heading towards the cars. He was acting weird, but I guessed it was because he saw what I saw on the commander's medals.
So I headed out after him, the three boys coming out shortly after. But as we got into the car, I got the sinking feeling that something was happening in the company without our knowing. And that when we found out, it would be too late to fix it.
...
I sat in the back seat, squished in between Han and Jeongin. The car was eerily silent as we all kept our eyes open to spot the fugitive we were looking for. Suddenly, Lee Know turned around and looked at me, making me sit up straighter. I felt my cheeks heat up, and I just wished the others couldn't see it.
"Ava, about what I said this morning, if it made you uncomfortable in any way, I-"
I cut his sentence off when I shook my head and brushed along his cheek with my fingers, smiling at him.
"You didn't make me uncomfortable. It's just a lot to process. But I'm fine with it."
I tried conveying the message that I wanted to talk more about it later, and saw him nod slightly at me, smiling. We held eye contact, until Jeongin cleared his throat from next to me, making me blush and pull away from Lee Know.
