YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN KID

I didn't chose this town,
I dream of getting out,
There's just one that could make me stay,
All my days

Madelyn's room was filled with boxes. She went to sit down on her bare bed when there was a knock at her bedroom door.

"Come in," she called.

"Hey Mads-" Peyton froze in the doorway, taking in the brown boxes that scattered her room.

"Peyton," she stood up quickly.

"What's with all the boxes?" she asked, confused.

"P," she took her hands in her own.

"Maddie, what's going on?" she asked.

"Good thing it's already over," she responded.

"Ha. Ha," he said sarcastically.

She stepped closer to him, gently rubbing his injured shoulder.

"What're you doing here?" he asked.

She sucked in a breath, "I'm moving to LA?" she said hesitantly.

"You're moving to LA," he repeated.

"I'm moving to LA," she confirmed.

"Huh," he responded. After a moment he spoke up, "I'm moving to Charleston."

"Huh," she responded.

And so they sat. In silence. But in each other's company.

There were pages turned with the bridges burned,
Everything you lose is a step you take,
So make the friendship bracelets,
Take the moment and taste it,
You've got no reason to be afraid,
You're on your own, kid,
Yeah, you can face this,
You're on your own, kid,
You always have been
