Nehalla

What the hell is going on? Did Lorax just challenge Morpheus in a fight to the death? It never happened before. When a Chief is ready to step down from his duty, he’s the one to call upon the next Chief for the throne. Morpheus has the right to refuse since he's the one in charge. Knowing him, he won't back down from this challenge. He will accept it. Lorax went too far by challenging him. He just dug his own grave.

Morpheus leaves my side, stepping toward Lorax. “Mother, can you please look after Nehalla? She’s still fragile after her encounter with the Beast.” He asks his mother without taking his eyes off Lorax.

Fahyra is at my side. She holds me to make sure I won’t collapse to the ground.

How can she be nice to me after what I've done? I need to apologize to her for everything I did.

Morpheus folds his arms in front of his muscular chest. “Now Lorax, you have my full intention. You want to challenge me for my throne, let me tell you, I’m happy to accept.”

“Oh, don't you worry, I’m ready,” Lorax says with confidence. He’s ready to jump in Morpheus’ face at this second.

Morpheus points at him. “You’ll never learn Lorax. Your impatience to do things will be your undoing. We will do this tomorrow at dawn.”

Morpheus looks at every member of the clan. “I, Morpheus, Chief of this clan, have been challenged to Thà-nato the duel to the death. I accept Lorax’s challenge. We will fight at dawn.”

Lorax put both of his hands up in the air, smirking. “I can’t wait until then to finally be able to take your place.”

It’s time for me to go back to the cave. I detach myself from Fahyra, reassuring her that I feel better.

I take the first step to my destination, but before I can go further, Morpheus grabs me by my arm. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“To the cave. Where else do you want me to go?”

“That’s an easy answer.” He smirks. “My chamber.” He says to me as if it isn't a big deal.

I widen my eyes, looking at him.

Morpheus winks at me. “Don’t worry, doll, I won’t even be there. I have a lot of things that need my intention.”

I nod my head. I know I had been there before, but now after what happened between us, it feels different somehow. I just don't want others to assume things. I’m not ready, we are not ready, and I hope he feels the same because for now, I want to keep him to myself.

I’m lying on a hammock in Morpheus’ chamber. I’m lost in my thoughts as I hear someone knocking.

It’s Fahyra, his mother. I’m glad to see her. I have something to say to her. I only hope she can forgive me.

I smile at her. “Councilor Fahyra, what a pleasant surprise to see you.”

“A formal welcome from you, Nehalla. You seem to do better. Are you ready to talk some more?” She asks me, taking a seat.

I take a seat beside her. “I just want to ask for your forgiveness. After what I’ve done.”

She let out a sigh. “After your parents died, I welcomed you to my home. I loved you as a daughter. When you became Hajjar mate, I was so proud, but everything changed so drastically. You’ve been lost to us. You betrayed Hajjar and your clan. Then Morpheus found you and brought you back.” She clears her throat. “I see how he looks at you. Hajjar used to look at you the same way. I understand that you didn’t have it easy when you were alone in that land. Don’t worry, I will help you as much as I can, but let me warn you. If you betray Morpheus, I will make your life a living hell.”

I believe every word.

Wait, does this mean that she knows about me and Morpheus? Damn, we have to be more careful. Is this the reason why she’s giving me a second chance? Because she wants her son to be happy?

Fahyra leaves after we talk some more.

I lay down in the hammock once more. I must have fallen asleep when suddenly I feel someone right next to me. As Morpheus put his strong arm around me, It didn’t take long for me to fall back into sleep.

I feel a light caress on my right cheek. “I have to go doll, it’s almost dawn, I have to prepare for my duel with Lorax. I’ll see you after.” He leans down to leave a kiss on my lips.

Seeing him ready to get out, I call his name. “Morpheus wait!” I try to stop him.

He turns around to look at me. “What is it, doll? Can’t this wait? I have to go.”

I waste no time, I stand up to run to him. I jump into his arms, wrapping my arms around his neck. “I love you, Morpheus. I love you so much.” I finally revealed the truth to him about my feelings.
