Nova & Sovack

Sovack knew that one day he had to let his Queen go, and that day had already come. He wanted to go on his own, but Nova had stopped him and told him he could stay here with her clan. She assured him that Griffin was happy to let him stay here.

"Good morning, Sovack. Did you sleep well?" Nova asked him when she found him at his usual spot.

"You know damn well that my kind doesn't sleep." He was rude to her for no reason in particular.

She flinched at his tone of voice. "Sorry. I didn't mean to bother you. See you later." She turned around as her back was facing him. Nova walked in the same direction she had taken to come here.

Before she could go too far. Sovack reached out for her hand, squeezing it. His gesture made Nova turn around to look at him.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I don't know why I've done it." He was ashamed of himself.

Nova shook her head, smiling at her friend. "Don't worry about it. I just wanted to let you know if you want to see me later, I'm going to be at my brother's hut." She waved her hand as she turned around to go to her destination.

As she stepped inside her brother's hut, Nova saw her niece, sleeping in Blossom's arms.

"Hi." She greeted Blossom. "I just wanted to see Sky. But I can see she's sleeping. Sorry if I disturbed you." Nova walked beside her sister-in-law to see Sky at a better angle. "Are you okay?" She asked when she saw Blossom's expression.

Blossom let out a sigh. "I'm just tired. I guess it's because I'm already pregnant!"

"What?" Nova's eyes widened upon hearing the news. "Are you serious? You just got Sky. Aren't you happy about the news?"

She shook her head. "It's not that. Of course, I'm thrilled about being pregnant." Blossom waved her hand in front of her. "You know what? Don't listen to me. As I said, I'm just tired."

Griffin stepped inside his hut. He smiled when he saw his sister. "Hey Nova, I didn't know you would come by."

"Well, congratulations are in order." Nova went to hug her brother.

"What can I say? I'm just that good." Griffin replied with a smirk.

"Griffin!" Blossom gasped as she slapped his shoulders.

Nova covered her ears with her fingers. "Tra, la la la la. Okay, it's my cue to go." Nova stepped outside. Sometimes her brother said the most embarrassing thing in front of her. As if she needed to hear this.

As she walked, she saw her grandmother, Owlla, reading stories to the children of the clan. It surprised Nova when she learned that her grandmother and Fahyra were now good friends. It's funny sometimes when a crisis can change things.

Lately, Nova's feelings have changed towards someone. She knew he would never reciprocate those same feelings. She couldn't remember when it started, but her heart raced every time she saw it.

"Look who it is. It's my star of the day."

"Conwell." For once, she was happy for his interruption. "How's Dolly doing?"

Her question surprised him. He wanted to tease her when he called her by that nickname. He used to call her that when they were together. "Fine, thank you for asking. We just learned that she's pregnant." He looked at her like she just grew another head.

She smiled. "I'm happy for both of you. It was what you always wanted to become a father." She was sincere as she said those words to him.

When Nova was little. She had an accident that prevented her from having any cubs. That's why it didn't work out between Conwell and her. Until this day, he disliked her for this reason and why he ended their relationship.

Suddenly Sovack was at her side, glaring at her ex. "Is he bothering you again, Nova?"

Nova was surprised when he appeared next to her. She didn't hear him approach them.

Conwell knew that it was time for him to leave them. He just wanted to stop by to annoy her. He did so because she was alone. Conwell didn't want to pass for a coward. He was afraid of the sergozard. It was the reason he took off.

Sovack and Nova walked side by side as no words were spoken between them. Sovack was ashamed of the way he had spoken to her earlier. She didn't deserve his temper. Besides his Queen, she was the only living being that he cared about.

"About earlier, I wanted to apologize again for the way I spoke to you. I don't know what came over me." He looked at the ground as he spoke to her.

"Don't worry about it, Sovack. I don't expect you to smile all the time. It's understandable. You're far away from your queen, and you miss her."

Sovack wasn't surprised by what she said. She was the only one that knew him so well.

"I'm still sorry." This time Sovack looked at her when he had spoken to her.

"If it's so important for you to apologize to me, I accept it." She kissed him on the cheek. Her gesture surprised them both.

In the heat of the moment, as they looked into each other's eyes, Nova leaned towards him and pressed her lips to his. She couldn't believe her boldness as she pulled away from him. Sovack could see the pink of her cheeks so easily against her white skin.

"I'm so sorry, Sovack. I don't know what came over me to do such a thing." She was ashamed of herself. Nova knew he would never feel the way she felt about him.

He was the one for whom her heart started beating fast. Why did she have to kiss? Now, everything between them will change.

It was too much for her. She turned to avoid his gaze. Nova couldn't face Sovack. She decided to run away from him.

Sovack was faster than her and grabbed her wrist to bring her to him. He didn't wait a moment as he kissed Nova in his turn. It surprised her at first, and then she kissed him back.

She stopped the kiss, surprised by his action. "Wait, wait, wait. What does this mean, Sovack? Do you want this?"

"I should be the one asking you this. We aren't the same species. You're a falrowven, and I'm a sergozard. It's not just that. I mean look at you. You're a beauty. Compared to you, I'm a beast."

Nova took his face between her hands. "You're my beast. I know it's sudden, but with you, it feels so right. I don't care that we're different. What about Hajjar and Kally? They are different, and they're still together. We can leave this place and go close to them. I know how much Kally means to you."

He brushes a lock of hair behind her ear. "She's maybe my Queen, but you're my princess. We don't have to leave. I know how much your family means to you."

"Sovack, the more time I spend with you, the more important you become to me. I want this. I want you. The question is, do you want me to?" Nova bit her lips nervously, waiting for his answer.

He brought her closer to him, kissing her once more. The decision was made, and they found a place in the forest to spend the rest of the days together. From time to time they went back to her clan so she could see her family. As time passed, neither of them regretted their decision to be together.
