CH-5 The 'Boring' Math Class

The default ringtone was still playing when we were looking at each other surprised, still wondering if Mrs. Orchids was going to call one of the students. I wished that the student just so happens to be that bully Marcus. The whole class went silent when suddenly we heard an unfamiliar voice.

"The heir of Mr. Kyle Williams is requested to come to principal's office to save their honorable principal from me.... You have 5 minutes to decide between your principal's life and yourself." The voice continued with a chuckle which lacked empathy. It was a deep voice, and he was determined in his choice... My eyes widened as I heard this, I couldn't get over his tone...Everything seemed to have frozen for a second, only broken by the whispers around the class after less than 10 seconds.

The whole class turned towards me with judgmental eyes. I was supposed to make a decision, in response to which I started sweating and became involuntary to all the feelings. Just like the rest of the students, I had no idea what was going on. The whispers grew louder as my attention was drawn to the reason and I lifted my head to see that Ece was standing up. I understood the seriousness of the situation as there was one thing clear. The school was highjacked. This couldn't have been a prank by one of the first-year students. The voice was way too mature, and the intensity of the seriousness was obvious, and I certainly didn't know such a great actor in our school even after being in the theatre club. It seemed to be clear to all the students, including Ece, I could tell she was worried and scared even when her back was facing me. The main questions in my head were- How many of them were there? What will he/they do to us? Are they calling us to hold hostages? Dan started shaking me to zone back in.

"Ken, I don't think Mrs. Orchids is in trouble and besides she will handle herself she is the head of this school, isn't she?" He tried consoling me, while I was confused and still had a million questions hovering in my head. I knew he was very worried because it had become apparent by his slightly shaky voice.

"Maybe they're asking us to come to call dad?" I murmured under my breath, it was not audible to Dan. It would have been better if this boring Math class would've just remained a math class.

Our teacher was looking at me, I could see the distress on his face as he tried to calm down the class.

"This must be a prank; another teacher must be checking on this." Mr. Dave spoke with strong conviction that even I was almost relieved until I heard someone's footsteps marching to my bench.

I was way too anxious to notice the face. But then when that student approached, I lifted my head and noticed her. It was Ece, the principal's daughter, her lips and her long fingers were violently trembling with fear.

"Ken, listen to me, I think you should go. I don't think they hold any personal grudges; they will not do anything to a kid...but I cannot say the same about mum. I am begging you...p-please save my mom." Tears rolled down her as she stood there holding her hands together and pleading. But I couldn't respond. I stood up, feeling empathetic for her, I just pulled her hands down and gave a nod. But I couldn't hide the fact that I was scared.

"Are you stupid? That's just a trap to lure you by blackmailing you in the name of the principal...plus she can protect herself. You won't be able to. Ken, come to your senses." Dan frantically shouted at me as he stood up to come to my level.

Mr. Dave, who had been trying to control the situation from the front of the class walked towards my bench as he saw that the situation was getting out of hand. The whispers in the classroom were present and there was no doubt that there was a small hint of fear in everyone's eyes.

"Mrs. Orchids will be handling this situation herself, there is no need to panic. And no one is going anywhere until we are all aware of what is going on." Mr. Dave ordered us. The class was silent for a bit until we heard footsteps rushing towards the classroom as everyone lifted their gaze.
