𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐬 into our driveway and we step out of the vehicle, the daylight now gone. Steve opens up the trunk and tosses Dustin his keys before grabbing the bat with nails. He faces Dustin and I with raised eyebrows as he closes the trunk and walks towards the cellar.

With Dustin leading the way, I follow closely behind, accompanied by Steve, as we proceed to the cellar. I sense Steve's gaze on me, making me squirm with discomfort. Soon, we're standing over the cellar doors and remain silent, awaiting for someone to say something.

"I don't hear shit." Steve says breaking the silence, as he shines his flashlight on the door in front of us.

"He's in there." Dustin replies calmly, glancing up at Steve.

Steve swiftly glances between myself and my brother, before turning his focus back towards the cellar door. With the bat in his holding, Steve gently taps the door a couple times, his tongue poking out slightly. Then, he forcefully pounds on the door once, before finally averting his vision back towards us, expression tinged with irritation.

"Alright listen, guys. I swear, if this is some sort of Halloween prank..." Steve starts, "You're dead."

"It's not." Dustin sighs slightly.

"Alright?" Steve asks, shining his flashlight right in my brother's face.

"It's not a prank, Steve." I say firmly, glaring at my friend.

"Yeah, so get it out of my face." Dustin replies, referring to the flashlight.

"You got a key for this thing?" Steve asks, nodding towards the cellar door.

I turn towards Dustin, who retrieves the necessary key from his jacket pocket before offering it to Steve. My body trembles and my heart skips a beat upon hearing a noise emit from the woods around my house, and I jump slightly. Dustin and Steve immediately turn their heads in my direction, their expressions displaying deep concern. I instantly offer them a reassuring smile, before gently rejecting their worries with a wave that signifies everything is alright.

Steve proceeds to yank the open the cellar door as I stand by and observe nervously, expecting Dart to erupt out from the space within at any moment. However, no signs of Dart's presence are detected, despite my high level of anxiety.

"Let me see that." Steve turns towards Dustin, grabbing the flashlight away from him, before shining it down the stairs.

"He must be further down there." Dustin concludes after seeing nothing but empty space, "I'll stay up here in case he tries to escape." My brother adds.

Steve looks at my brother and shakes his head in disbelief, letting out an exasperated sigh, before turning towards me again.

"You're staying too?" Steve asks hesitantly.

"Of course not," I reply without a second thought, "I'm going with you."

Steve nods his head before he starts his way down the stairs. Before I can follow behind, Dustin grabs my sleeve pulling me back.

"What's going on between you two?" Dustin asks accusingly, his eyebrows furrowed together.

"Nothing." I respond instantly.

"Something is just off between you guys." Dustin says, glancing down the stairs at Steve and I follow his gaze.

"You wouldn't understand, Dust." I reply, giving my brother a weak smile before hastily following Steve down the stairs.

Steve and I gradually advance toward the light situated in the middle of the room, gently pulling the chain down to switch the light on. We examine our surroundings and then Steve picks up the flesh from Dart's previous molt, with his nailed bat. My face contorts with disgust as I witness Steve displaying the gore-stained creature skin. Steve looks over at me with confusion on his face, unable to comprehend the repulsive sight. Steve's eyes eventually fall upon the giant hole in the wall, covered in slim and goo.
