𝐃𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧, 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞, and I pause in front of the junk yard, the wind blowing against our faces and the sun shining down upon us from above. The three of us survey the space around us.

I clutch the strap of my backpack tightly, with Dustin on my left and Steve on my right. Steve's sunglasses sit upon the tip of his nose, accentuating his pretty features and causing me to inwardly swoon.

"Oh, yeah. Yeah, this will do." Steve comments, taking off his sunglasses for a better view before putting them back on, "This will do just fine." He says before walking towards the old bus.

"Good call, dude." Steve adds, making my brother break out in a wide grin and follow behind.

With my attention locked on my brother and best friend, I remain in place, taking in the sight of them working together. A subtle smile appears, gradually spreading across my face, knowing that Dustin had gained himself a new loyal companion with Steve by his side.

"(Y/n)?" Steve calls over to me, "You coming?"

"Yeah, yeah," I call out, jogging over to the boys, "I'm coming."

The three of us dump the remaining buckets full of meat onto the ground in a pile, in close proximity to the old bus. That's what we plan to use as our spot of refuge as we wait for Dart to make an appearance.

"I said medium-well!" Lucas yells from across the junkyard.

Steve, Dustin, and I raise our gazes upwards and witness Lucas and Max standing on a nearby hill. Lucas has a giant smile plastered on his face as he waves at us enthusiastically, his bike in his other hand. The two of them walk towards us, to join our little group.

"Who's that?" Steve asks, referring to Max.

Dustin remains silent as a response, and Steve and I notice the sad yet resentful look painted across my brother's face, as his two friends approach.

"That's the girl." I lean over to whisper in Steve's ear.

"Oh." He replies, glancing at my brother with a worried expression as Dustin drags Lucas behind a nearby car.

"Come on." I grab Steve's hand pulling him over to the bus where we get to work.

Steve, Max, and I work on armoring up the bus with scrap metal to make it a somewhat safe place for us to be when Dart arrives. The boys are still chatting it up behind the bus while we work out asses off. Max approaches me with some more metal and I offer her a small smile.

"Hey, Max." I say simply and she responds with a confused look.

"How do you know my name?" She asks as I put the metal against the bus.

"Dustin may have mentioned you," I say with a shrug, "And I've also run into your brother a few times." I rub the back of me neck.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Max apologizes for her brother, "He's a dick."

"Yeah, he only hit on me a couple times." I say with a light chuckle causing a smile to grow on Max's face.

"He clearly didn't know you and him are together." Max says, nodding in Steve's direction, causing my eyes to widen.

"What?" No, no, no," I say frantically, waving my hands around, "We're just friends."

"Are you sure?" Max questions with a raised brow and curious expression, "Because the amount of times he's looked over at you since we started talking says otherwise." Max nods in Steve's direction and I follow her gaze, a light blush coating my cheeks.

I'm met with Steve's gaze locked on me, his kind expression displaying his affection towards me. I return his warm smile and send him a shy wave, and he greets my gesture with a wave of his own, before turning his attention back to his work. I then avert my gaze back towards Max.
