RELATIONSHIPS

Kate has been staring at the ceiling of Abbie's apartment. She had never really given much thought about it before. But now that she had a proper look, she decided that ceilings were the most underrated part of a house. They were never given the proper once-over, unlike most of what was already laid out. She thought perhaps that maybe she was just high, but then again, she was much too happy to care.

Then she felt a trail of kisses down her bare back and like a lightning bolt, every inch of her body ignited by the gesture.

"We should really stop." She said, although, if she's being honest, she did not really mean it. Her suppressed smile really gave her away, and Abbie just laughed at her as she turned around to face her. The couch was getting uncomfortable and she knew she had to stop procrastinating.

"You've said that for about the third time now and you still haven't gotten up," the girl pointed out, planting kisses in her neck. "You don't practice what you preach." She teased when she pulled away to stare at her properly.

The girl was grinning from ear to ear as though she has just won the lottery and she was actually glad to see the said smile on the latter's face. It made her feel less... tense.

"Yeah... but this is also, like, the eighth time you've distracted me." She chastised her playfully, grabbing her scattered clothes from the floor.

The living room was a hot mess ever since she arrived that afternoon, they had been doing it non-stop and she realized that Abbie was probably hiding something and that was why she was acting needy, but she didn't try to broach the subject with her. She figured the girl would tell her on her own time.

"I really should get back to working on my stuffs." She added, glancing at the dining table at the far end of the room where her laptop was glowing and her books and papers were scattered. She had resolved to actually do some work but, as she said, Abbie kept on distracting her.

"What, your research on royal families?" She asked, glancing at the dining table too. The clock said they had an hour 'til midnight. "I thought you don't have to hand that in until the end of this year. Why the rush?"

"Not just that," she answered. "I have a lot of papers due for this week."

"Then do it tomorrow." The younger whined and she was actually surprised. The girl rarely ever showed childish behavior even with the fact that she's five years younger than her and right now, she was trying to be a charming kid, which was very odd. "I'd be gone for a week and t's our last night before I leave." She said as she got to her feet and started to get dressed.

She remembered that Abbie did say something about leaving for about a week awhile ago. She wasn't really very clear on the details, but she figured it was just for work again. She just shrugged it off, pushing it to the back of her mind. With the girl gone for a week, it would give her enough time to work on the things she needed to work on. She hated to admit it to herself but, yes, she was behind on a lot of things.

"Oh Armstrong, grow up. It's not as if you aren't coming back." She said, rolling her eyes at the girl as she pulled her shirt on over her head.

"But I'm going to miss you, though. Aren't you going to miss me?"

Kate sometimes found herself stopping for a moment or two whenever Abbie said things like that to her. The sudden surge of affection after their playful banter left her dumbfounded and she didn't know how to answer it. Most of the time though, she would deflect because she found it easier that way.
