HUMAN ADAPTATION

Harrold was right. Things did settle down eventually after few weeks.

About a week after their talk in the abandoned building, the paparazzi started to leave her alone. However, the day after they caught her with Harrold suddenly made a huge deal. Pictures of the two of them running dramatically across the university grounds were all over the internet articles she came across, but she didn't care because it wasn't true anyway.

Everything just took a turn for the better after that.

Well, things may have calmed down on her end, but the chaos switched over to Abigail's. Sometimes, she would come across an article of her with various inappropriate headlines. At one time there was even the question of what going for a commoner might do for the crown.

Bethany and Harrold told her that Abbie was used to it since she had always been the press's favorite drama source. She shrugged it off, knowing that she could handle things like that. Besides, she really didn't care anymore. She was out of the girl's life.

At least that was what she thought.

She was dozing off in front of her sandwich in the cafeteria at that time and she really didn't know what got to her. Perhaps it was the shitload of alcohol she drank the previous night with her two friends in their dorm.

She was liking the whole friends thing a lot because before, she thought they were really awesome.

"Someone told me you'd be here." Someone said from somewhere far away. She couldn't really tell who is it since her mind was still filled with alcohol and clouded.

"I'm right in front of you." The voice said again, rather amused.

Katelyn looked up and, through her still rather hazy-beer-goggles, she saw someone she thought she would never see again.

But then again, at least, that was what she thought.

After a closer and longer inspection and an infectious giggle, she realized that who she was looking at was Patrick—the younger brother.

But still, though, Prince Patrick. She stopped herself from laughing and said as explanation, "S-Sorry. It's my alcohol-addled brain."

"That's all right. By the way, it's nice to see you again. I forgot how fun you are." He said in a friendly manner.

Kate suddenly realized that the last time they met, Patrick read a little bit of her research work and suddenly felt embarrassed.

Wait. What was he doing in front of her anyway? Was it, perhaps, a mirage?

"What are you doing here?" She asked, bluntly. And then, realizing that that was probably rude seeing as she was in the presence of a prince and all.

"I-I'm sorry, Your Highness."

"Oh please, no. None of that is necessary." He said dismissively. "Someone told me you'd be here and I actually wanted to talk to you, if that's all right." His voice were so calm and gentle.

That was when she noticed that she was, after all, in the cafeteria and millions—OK, probably not millions—of people were staring at the two of them now. Right. A Prince is in front of her. She really had to get that into her mind eventually.
