Occipital Bone (Basilar View)

The Occipital Bone forms the lower back and underside of your skull.  It is made up of four parts that join together to form the Foramen Magnum which is where your spinal cord enters the brain:
The Basilar - the part nearest the front of your face, this is the smallest section
Two Laterals - these make up the sides of the Foramen Magnum
The Squamous - this is the large part that makes up the whole lower back part of your skull
While this is part of the cranium, the Atlas articulates with (has contact with) the Occipital Condyles.

Protuberance - Sticks out in a blunt manner
Petrous - rock-like

Condyle - an area where another bone articulates with this bone
Line - a line of bone that sticks out slightly
