Cervical Vertebrae

Seven Cervical Vertibrae make up the human neck.  All vertebrae are consider unpaired (there's only one in the body, not one on each side), irregular bones.  These are the smallest vertebrae in the body and are the most flexible and moveable.  The 7th cervical vertebra is often difficult to distinguish from the first thoracic vertebra.

Sulcus - a groove, often for a nerve
Lateral - From the side or towards the side of the body, opposite of medial which means towards the middle of the body
