The Tibia is the second largest and longest bone in the human body and the largest bone in the lower leg. Often called the shin bone, it is most often used for aging juveniles and stature estimation.

Key Vocabulary:
Eminence - a protuberence
Malleolus - hammer head like

Key Measurement:
Maximum Length - measured on an osteometric board from the distal end of the malleolus to the to the most proximal surface of the lateral condyle

Stature Estimation Equations:

When doing stature, it is best to do a Group Affiliation Evaluation to make sure to use the best equation. For this equation use Maximum Length of the Tibia in Centimeters where it says Femur.
