HAVEN MCQUEEN

Two Months Ago

"Oh my God, Harry, do you know what this means?" I shot up from the couch with my hand on my forehead. "You're going to be the first solo man on the cover of American Vogue! This is fucking huge!"

He started to laugh as I then quickly straddled his lap, holding his face in my hands. "I guess that's a pretty big deal, huh?"

"Are you kidding? It's massive! Oh my God, but what will you wear?" My eyes bugged out as I climbed off him again to start pacing. "It needs to be major, H. Bigger than what you wear on stage. It needs to be more than sequins and sparkles."

"Did you have that third espresso I told you not to drink?"

"What if you were naked but in a classy way?" I suggested, then immediately changed my mind. "No, that's a terrible idea."

"Yeah, I'd like to be dressed, please," he laughed.

"Well, do you have any idea of what you'd like to wear?"

He paused to think about it until that crease formed between his brows. "Not really. I agree that it should make a statement, but I don't really know."

I plopped back down on the couch, staring forward as I sorted through all the possibilities in my mind. He couldn't just wear a boring old suit, but what would be the fun in him wearing something too similar to what everyone had already seen him in on tour? That wouldn't be exciting enough. But then it came to me.

"What if you wore a dress or a skirt?"

He nodded and laughed like he thought I was kidding, but I was just looking back at him. "Wait, really?"

"Why not?" I sat forward again as I started to get excited about the idea. "You're passionate about sort of breaking gender norms and you're the one who said fashion is supposed to be fun when you were being interviewed at the Met, right? So what if you do the most gender norm-breaking thing and be the first man on the cover of Vogue wearing a dress? That's so fucking rock and roll, H."

At the way I slapped and held onto his thigh in excitement, he laughed and kept his smile as he took another minute to think about it.

"What kind of a dress, though?"

"I have no idea, but we could find a way to make it a mixture of masculine and feminine since that's your whole thing," I moved to straddle his lap again. "But this is your thing so say no if you don't want to."

"No, I like the idea," he nodded seriously. "I agree with all the reasoning you gave and no one would expect it. I'd shock them all for sure."

"You're positive?"

"I'm positive," he assured me. "It's a great idea, I just wish I would have thought of it first."

I squealed in excitement and leaned in to press three quick pecks to his lips. "You're gonna look so good, and to answer your question from before, yes I did have that second espresso. Thank you for my fancy coffee machine."

He couldn't stop laughing as I started kissing all over his face, and I couldn't be more offended when he tried pushing me off him, but it was still a great day in our little gloomy quarantine bubble. One of the best.

After riding in the car for nearly three hours and making two pit stops for the babies to get out of their seats for some fresh air, we finally arrived at the Seven Sisters Cliffs in Sussex. Despite the cold, it's astoundingly beautiful and I think it's exciting that Jack and Lily have been able to visit all these stunning places at such a young age.
