Harry, Ron, and Hermione had always known about Hagrid's unfortunate penchant for very dangerous magical creatures, Fluffy was proof of that with his three heads.

As sure as Harry was that a thirteen-year-old Hagrid was quite capable of finding a very dangerous creature and just putting a collar on it and walking around like a poodle, Harry knew that Hagrid was incapable of killing anyone.

The trio spent the next few days arguing about this, just as none of them thought Hagrid could kill anyone, they knew that creatures were dangerous in themselves, like the dragon Nobert.

Harry tired of repeating how he'd found out from the diary and recounted all the conversations that followed.

"Riddle might have caught the wrong person," Hermione defended him, "Maybe it was another monster."

"This school isn't big enough to have lots of monsters," Ron retorted, "don't you think?"

"We knew Hagrid was expelled," Harry said, "and the attacks stopped after that or Riddle wouldn't have won the prize."

"He sounds like Percy, why did he go and snitch on Hagrid?"

"Because someone died, Ron," Hermione reminded him.

"Riddle would have had to go back to the orphanage if the school closed," Harry said, "I can't blame him for wanting to stay."

"Do you think we should talk to Hagrid?" Hermione asked.

"That would be a great conversation," Ron said sarcastically "Hey Hagrid, how's it going? So have you been releasing any wild, furry creatures around the castle these days?"

At the end of the second day, they decided not to talk to the half-giant. Instead, the passing days created a false hope, without any new attacks, that they would never have to ask.

They let themselves concentrate on new matters, some very important and affecting their future.

They sat together at a table in the library going through the list of new subjects they could sign up for from the third year onwards, ticking off the one they preferred.

"We have to stick with the old subjects," Ron looked a little disappointed, "or I'd drop Defense Against the Dark Arts."

"But it's very important," Hermione exclaimed.

"It doesn't seem like it, especially with Lockhart teaching it," Ron grumbled, "I haven't learned anything from him, apart from the fact that it's dangerous to let pixies run free."

Neville seemed confused about what to choose, he had received several letters from his family advising him on which subject to choose, but he was just walking past his classmates with his list in hand, wondering if Arithmancy seemed more difficult than Ancient Runes. Dean Thomas, who like Harry was raised among muggles, with his eyes closed, pointed his wand at the list and the item it pointed to, and he signed up.

Hermione, not exactly surprising her friends, enrolled in all of them.

"Muggle Studies?" Harry read off the list: "Why sign up for it as a muggle-born?"

"Because it's easy," Ron replied.

"I want to find out how wizards see the muggle world" she replied "And if you think it's so easy, Ron, why don't you join too?"

"Of course, I will," he replied, narrowly avoiding sticking out his tongue like a child, "everyone in my family took that subject."

"Well, if it's easy, I guess I'll do it too," Harry concluded.

They moved on to the rest of the list, with the brunette signing up for "Divination, Ancient Runes and Dealing with Magical Creatures" as well as Ron. Arithmancy with Hermione, and Muggle Studies.
