I'll come back, I promise

It'd been 2 months since Brian had left. 2 months since Brian had promised he'd come back someday. Daithi had counted everyday, but he didn't know how much longer he could wait.

The recording sessions were painful. Brian had sounded exhausted, but so happy. He was loving his new home in Washington, and had spent ages gushing to him and their friends off recording.

Daithi smiled for him, he cheered him on, he teased him. But inside, he was dying. He missed his best friend. He missed being so close to him, knowing he could go see him whenever he needed.

He missed their meet ups. He missed their fun days bullshitting around town. He missed hanging out in one of their homes eating pasta and watching dumb movies.

He missed the way Brian's legs would be tossed over his legs, Daithi's hand on his knee. He missed the hugs Brian would give him after every visit. He missed the way Brian would laugh at some stupid thing Daithi would say, his head falling back and those little snorts falling from his lips.

He missed Brian.

3 months since he'd watched Brian fly away, and he wondered if Brian even remembered the promise.

4 months since he stood in that airport and Daithi was losing hope.

5 months and he'd started putting up walls, declining calls and avoiding sessions he knew Brian would be in.

6 months and he still cried himself to sleep. He was an idiot in love, and he'd accepted it months before Brian had left.

6 months, 3 weeks and 4 days. He sat curled on his couch, staring at a blank TV. Or so he told himself. He knew he was actually looking at the photo he had of him and Brian next to the TV, one he physically couldn't put away.

A knock came at the door and Daithi jumped harshly, head spinning around fast to stare a moment. Another knock, a specific one that had Daithi's heart frozen.

He leaped up from the couch and rushed over, taking a moment to breathe deeply and he opened the door. His breath caught in his throat.

"Hey Daithi," Brian said quietly and Daithi lunged forward, throwing his arms around the other tightly. "Holy fuck, you're here," Daithi breathed and Brian chuckled, dropping his bag and hugging him tightly back.

"Yeah, sorry it took so long, but I did promise didn't I?" Brian said amused and Daithi just squeezed him tighter. Brian chuckled again and Daithi felt him kiss his cheek.

His heart jumped and he finally pulled away, rubbing his neck shyly as he stared at the other. It felt like years since he'd seen him in person, though he knew it hadn't been.

"Come in, come in," Daithi breathed, picking up Brian's bag and leading the other inside. He glanced around shamefully, knowing that his depressive state hadn't been the best for cleaning. But at least the dishes were done and there wasn't laundry everywhere.

He was also very thankful he'd showered that morning. Only because he knew they had a recording session set up and the others would be really confused if he didn't have his facecam set up.

"You've been avoiding me," Brian said quietly and Daithi bit his lip, not wanting to turn around and face him. "Why?"

Daithi couldn't answer. He couldn't tell him he thought Brian had forgotten about him. He couldn't say his heart broke every time he saw how utterly happy Brian looked in the discord call. He couldn't say he was just trying to protect himself.

"I-" Daithi said, unsure of what to say. What could he say?

Brian took his arm and turned him around, blue eyes sad and knowing. "I never forgot my promise, you know. I'd always planned on coming back, I swear. Just for you," he said softly and Daithi just eyed him.

"I've missed you, more than you know, Daithi," Brian said, setting his hands on Daithi's cheeks and he closed his eyes, leaning into his palm.

Lips touched his and he jumped, eyes shooting open. Brian pulled back quickly, face bright red. "Uh, I'm sorry, I just-" he stammered and Daithi grabbed his arms, pulling him close.

"You startled me asshole," he muttered before kissing him, Brian winding his arms around Daithi's shoulders tightly.

Daithi almost couldn't breathe, and not just because of the lips on his. Was this real? Was Brian really here and kissing him?

Fingers threaded into his hair and tugged lightly, Daithi humming at the light sting. Yeah. This was real. This was definitely real.

He deepened the kiss, hugging the smaller man close to his chest. They broke apart, breathing heavily and just stared at each other a moment.

Brian laughed first, Daithi laughing immediately after. They clung to each other, unable to stop the giggles for several minutes. The pure joy, giddiness, elation, whatever it was called, that Daithi felt made it hard to stop.

But eventually it did, even if it got restarted a few times when they made eye contact. But soon Daithi just gazed at the other, heart warm. "How- how long are you staying?" He asked and Brian smiled.

"My return ticket is in two weeks, but you can always convince me to stay longer," he said and Daithi let a smile creep across his lips. Brian grinned at him, tilting his chin to look up at him properly.

Daithi leaned down and kissed him again, nothing more than a soft pressure on the others. His hands rested on the others waist, fingers dipping below his shirt.

Brian was home. He'd made his promise, and Daithi should have known Brian would keep it.

Day 10! Tada lol I hope yall enjoyed! See you tomorrow!!
