"Aw Man"

"C'mon Mr. Benson, you're supposed to be fun"!

"NOOOOOOOO"

That is the sound of Mr. Benson's 6th graders the week before state testing.

"Oh please, you need this in order to get ready for testing" Mr. Benson said, "Besides, everyone will work in groups for this project, and don't dare think that I haven't noticed you ignore Aru."

It was true. Aru had arrived to school at the time of year when all the cliques had been formed.

The Weebs, Comic dorks, the Popular kids, you name it and each group was already made. Aru had only one friend, Mini, who was practically an out-cast along with Aru, so they were bound to become friends. Aru's mom had to travel for work, so Aru tended to avoid most kids but because of that she was picked on more often, thus leading to her outcasty-ness.

Any who back to the story

"Can we pick our group members?" Poppy, the worst pick-me in this universe, asked sweetly.

"Nope"

"Aww" the class chorused.

"Dang it" Aru muttered.

"Oh, and we have a few new students joining us today" Mr. Benson exclaimed, as if it were the best thing ever.

It was not.

"well, we might expect them a bit later, so I'll go to the bathroom."

weird, Aru thought, since when do schools let kids arrive a week before state testing. Promptly, as if on cue, a cute tall boy and a strong-looking tall girl, had waltzed in and were awkwardly standing in front of the whole class.

Aru chuckled. Sucks to be them she thought. and she felt more so when the class idiot decided to yell out.

"HI CUZ" Rudy yelled hopping out of his seat and ran up to the front to give the boy and the girl a hug, but he didn't get far.

"NO "the tall girl said firmly, judo-flipping Rudy as if she had done this a million times before. Aru started laughing, loud enough for the whole class to hear. Rudy had hit on her and many others at school and there was not one that wouldn't reject him, so it was funny to see him get what he deserved. The boy stared at her while everyone fidgeted around, waiting for the teacher to get back. Aru hadn't noticed because she was busy turning pieces of binder paper into origami swans.

"So, i see you have met Aiden and Brynne already" Mr. Benson said as he walked through the door. The boy, so called Aiden, shifted his gaze and stared down at his camera.

Brynne raised an eyebrow when she noticed this.

"The name's Brynne, not Brian, not Brianna, Brynne and I cook and will kick your a-" Aiden kicked her shin.

"Okay geez-kick your butt if you dare harm a hair on either of us three cuz that's my job" Brynne finished, glaring at everyone.

Aru had heard bits and pieces of what Brynne had said but had mainly been staring at Aiden. She had noticed he has curly brown hair and beautiful brown eyes. They looked as if they were filled with stars. he wore a oversized grey hoodie with black skinny jeans. He also looked very familiar.

"My name's Aiden and i hope you all will treat us well" is all Aiden said.

"Now that you're all introduced, Aiden, Brynne, take a seat anywhere you like." The oblivious teacher gestured.

There were 3 seats available in this class, one next to Rudy, one next to Hira, and one next to Aru, of course. Brynne went ahead and eagerly sat down next to Hira and you could clearly see Hira blushing as Brynne sat down. Aiden sat next to Aru, because who would deliberately sit next to Rudy.

"I'm assuming you all have settled so you guys may talk while I pass out the worksheets and poster paper" Mr. Benson said, rummaging through the big closet next to his desk.

Chatter filled the room, and Aru noticed Brynne and Hira hit it off as if they were always friends. To be honest, they looked cute together, Aru thought.

"That other girl and Brynne?" Aiden asked, puzzled.

"Shoot"

Aru's inside voice had become her outside voice again.

"Yeah, they look adorable together" Aru said as she watched Brynne intently listening to whatever Hira was saying and Brynne leaning even closer to Hira as if she was the most important thing in the world.

"What's the girl's name?"

"Oh, that's Hira, she's a bit new here" Aru said. Hira had arrived at school a few weeks ago and was another one of Aru's friends. She was very sweet and had a very hard life as her parents had died in a plane accident, so she had to go to foster families until Aru's little sister's family adopted Hira. now Hira lives happily in the small neighborhood Aru lived in with Mini.

"Oh so that's Hira" Aiden exclaimed in surprise.

Aru was about to ask why he was so surprised, but Mr. Benson had finally found the poster paper needed for the project.

She had a feeling that something was different.

'Who was that boy and why does he look so familiar?'
