It was hard breathing, no, it was hard even to move. The moment Nick opened his eyes, he grunted in pain at the slightest movement.

Somehow, he found himself awake in a cave groaning in pain as he put a shaky hand to his ribs. He was shirtless and it seemed like someone had tended to his injury. His ribs and right arm were aching, so it was clear where he was injured.

He looked around confused. It was all practically just rock. There didn’t seem to be any way in or out either. There seemed to be an entrance, but it seemed blocked by a bunch of ruble and boulders while the other side only seemed like a dead end with a small pond and a small sapling growing with a bit of light peeking out from a hole in the cave’s roof. Yet, his gaze moved towards the moving flame, a fire someone made. He was more surprised to see a familiar voice, a familiar voice shaking him awake from his distortion. His gaze finally focused more on the figure.

A slender figure, crouched by a fire. Raven dark hair reached the nape of his neck, while his uniform was dirty.

“Ely-?” he started before getting cut off. Elyon wipped his head in the direction of Nick as he stoo up and walked quickly towards him. He looked tired.

“Please...don’t...strain yourself…your hurt…” A low, shaken voice said. It sounded as if he had been crying.

N

ick couldn’t bear to feel the sting in his heart at Elyon’s soft and broken voice, but he didn’t dare move, for it might upset him even more.

“Where..are we?” Nick said looking around before his eyes landed back to Elyon who had walked back to the fire to pick up a stone bowl with a bit of water. His sleeve had been ripped to use as a wet cloth. He kneeled in front of Nick and started wiping his cheek gently. The mask prohibiting him from going any higher. Nick closed his eyes in the process, feeling so very calm.

Elyon didn’t answer for almost a whole minute.

“Your…mask broke..earlier…and I had to give you mine...I didn’t really need it...” Elyon did not know if that was okay of him to say.

Normally, Masks are not supposed to be easily broken since they ae imbued with magic or mana at times, so if he broke it must have been an ordinary mask. Elyon’s question now was, “That means he naturally has black hair...yet I don’t sense any divine or evil in him...so why?”

Elyon almost jumped when Nick gripped his wrist. Removing the wet cloth from his face with a serious expression. His face paled, yet his expression calm and stoic, as if trying to look deep into Elyon’s soul to distinguish him as friend or foe.

“you…didn’t...see...any..thing?” his voice being slightly shaky in the process
E

lyon’s eyes widened and he shook his head at once.

“I…only noticed when I saw it chipped…I thought the first time I met that it was designed that way...I wasn’t expecting it to break so easily. I took off my own and gave it to you instead…I hope you do not mind, Nick...”

Nick stared at Elyon.Elyon wasn't treating him any different, on the contrary, he seemed to believe he did something wrong to disappoint Nick. Nick couldn't help but let out a slight chuckle as he sighed and let Elyon's hand go gently. He ran a hand through his hair, wondering if it had changed colors like Elyon’s usually did with the magic mask the school provided.

Nick couldn’t help but take a breath in before groaning and grabbing his side. Elyon at once grabbed the wet cloth and dipped it in a bowl that seemed to be made of stone. He helped Nick lie down as he put the cloth on the injury. It was warm and soothed the stinging pain after a few minutes.

He glanced at Elyon, finally taking a good look at him.

Elyon looked gaunt. So weak and fragile, like glass. Like he could break at any moment. Nick brought a shaky hand to his cheek and stroked a singular gentle caress down to his jaw. Elyon glanced at him in surprise.

They stared at one another for a few moments, before both of them looked away blushing, Elyon looking down with his cheeks feeling warmer by the second as he tried to solely stare and focus on helping heal Nick’s injury, while Nick only looked away as HIS face started to feel warmer as well and he brought a hand to his mouth.

“So... Ellie…how long have we been stuck here? And how is it that we have not gotten out yet?” Nick asked after his blush started to die down.

Elyon looked up and sighed.

“I do not know what that was, but that Explosion, I am guessing, sent everyone flying. I remember a bit of it though…”
