"Hey, I'm picking you up," Tanner calls me Wednesday morning before school, "but we're ditching school. I'm gonna take you somewhere."

"Hm, I don't know," I give him a hard time, brushing through my head of wet hair. "I'm a good girl. I don't ditch school, unlike you."

"Good girl my ass!" he laughs. "I'll be there in 20."

He hangs up before I can interject. I sigh and stare at myself in the bathroom mirror, and think screw it. I've been wanting to talk to Tanner about where our relationship is going, but the only times I have seen him have been during school or after at one of his practices, which, unknown to him, I only stayed for Will because football is boring.

Speaking of the devil, there's a knock on the door. "Want a ride to school?"

I open it and peer out. "Um," I smile nervously, "I think I'll show up for English."

"Everything okay?" his soft face turns worried.

"If you must know," I smile at him, "I'm hanging out with Tanner."

Will shakes his head. "Why can't you do that after school?"

"He said he's taking me somewhere," I shrug, leaning close into the mirror with my mouth wide open to put on mascara.

Will leans against the door frame. "That's not creepy at all," he draws sarcastically.

I roll my eyes. "He's a babe, okay, and I'm going with him. Don't tell anyone."

"Just," Will sighs, "don't get into any trouble."

I frown at him. "Will, what kind of trouble do you think Tanner would get me into? He's literally perfect, and I'm missing one class, and were just doing review for a test, which I did all last night!" I wave my hands frantically, eyebrows raised in curiosity.

"I have a bad feeling about him," Will whines, "I told you already."

"Do you have any reason not to trust him? Do you know anything about him? Does you BFF Axel talk shit about him?" I ask, feeling little guilty for attacking Axel all of a sudden, although I'm sure if Tanner tells me things about Axel, Axel probably spills stories to Will about Tanner.

"Well, no," he thinks, and give him the 'I told you so' face. He rambles, "but, Axel says he's a douche, and frankly, it's not hard to believe at all."

"Like Axel's any better?" I'm yelling now, completely frustrated. None of my family members have taken any interest in my relationship with Tanner. Mom was all cutesy at first, Dad will once and a while ask how Tanner's doing but makes absolutely no plan to try to get to know him, and Will, saying he has a bad feeling about Tanner is almost a compliment compared to how I know he really feels. "Axel literally bullied me, Will!" I crow, "the only reason he stopped is probably because I'm your sister. If I did anything to upset him he'd start again, and when bullying ruins your childhood, it's hard not to hold a grudge! But I don't make a big deal about your friendship because I want you to be happy, so leave me and Tanner the fuck alone. Dammit!"
