i was young
there was a terrorist attack
and everyone around me
thought it was the end of the world

i was young
and the job market crashed
and the people on tv
said it was the end of the world

i was young
and the world was polluted
and the teachers at school
said it was the end of the world

i was young
and They said it was predicted
that i would live
to see the end of the world

i'm older now
and every year
i turn on the news
and hear it's the end of the world

the end of the world
all i've been waiting for
the end of the world
and so i haven't planned a future
and i haven't any kids
and i don't have any aspirations
and i don't pay all my bills
i will never own a house
it doesn't matter if i'm fit
and right here is where
i'm starting to think
this is the point of all of this
because i've never been so broke
but the way people just go on
you'd think that's how the normal is
you'd think nothing is wrong
somewhere along the way
in all the talk about the end
They made it seem like friday
like tomorrow may never begin

i was young
and the end of the world
should have been spilled milk
or a kite won't come unfurled

i was young
and tv showed me
all the different ways
my society would collapse

i was young
and it wasn't a question
of whether
it was how
and when

i was young
and prepared to die
instead of being prepared
to live
