Season 6 x 01
Fair Game

over the past six months, a lot has changed.
it all started when i was around 17 and a half weeks pregnant. a couple days prior to that, quinn made progress.
on that day, quinn opened his eyes.
the nurse put an o2 mask in his nose. he opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
"it's okay" i smiled
"you're okay quinn"
after three days of straight rain, the day quinn woke up was sunny. it was like god giving us a sign. reassuring me that everything was okay.
"cass" quinn whispered
"yeah, i'm here" i hushed
i stretched a long sleeve shirt over my stomach. i was nearly 9 months pregnant, now. a few months ago, quinn and i made our move to new york city. the cia helped us move here. well, more like saul and dar. i moved all my stuff from philadelphia to my cousins old townhouse.
it was different. everything was different now. moving here was a good thing, though. quinn has been enrolled in a therapy program at a local hospitals rehabilitation centre. after the stroke, he lost movement on his left side. some words were hard for him to grasp.
it was going great at first but his mood had quickly declined. i mean, within these last few months, he's made a whole bunch of progress. good progress. i was worried about him, though.
i threw on a coat and locked my front door.
the hospital was no more than ten minutes by taxi, that's if the traffic wasn't bad.
i sat in the back of the car. my baby was kicking a lot now. she was very active lately. i found out i was having a girl shortly after quinn woke up. those months were great. quinn and i were inseparable. we were happy. he was happy. i still visit him every single day though.
i handed the taxi driver a few bills, closing the car door. then, i walked into the doorway of the hospital.
"cassandra, welcome back" the security guard smiled.
"yeah, nice seeing you, don" i waved
i went into the elevator and up to quinn's floor.
that's when i saw carrie.
"cassandra" she smiled
i rolled my eyes.
"what the hell are you doing here?"
"what's up with quinn?" she asked, disregarding what i just said.
i shook my head "what do you mean?"
"he's not his self"
i took a deep breath.
"why don't you just leave us alone"
"we don't need you anymore"
"clearly you do if all he wants to do is leave this place"
"he can get better" she smiled
i rolled my eyes "maybe if you stop bugging him"
"you can't force someone into this shit, so why don't you stop the visiting?"
"cassandra?"
"carrie, before you started this, quinn was doing great"
"he actually didn't mind this place"
"it's almost like he was the old quinn"
i waved my hand in the air "now, the other day i found him in some back alley, high out of his mind, and barefoot"
"he fucking got robbed"
"and they left him out laying in the cold"
"and that's my fault?" she scoffed
i pointed my finger at her, then at myself "a couple months ago i was the one praying over quinn's death bed"
"i stayed there everyday wishing he would just open his eyes"
"you left just like you did when he was bleeding to death in that garage"
i closed my eyes "i just, i need to do this on my own with him"
"no more cia bullshit"
"i don't work fo-"
"carrie, please" i begged

i walked around the corner of the hallway, into quinn's room. i took a deep breath before going into it.
"cass" he smiled
"how are you?"
"same old" he shrugged
i stepped into the room, sighing.
"i saw carrie"
he shot me a look.
"you okay?"
"i want her to go away"
"i made that clear to her" i nodded
he looked up at me from his lap "how's the baby?"
"she's active" i smiled
"you seem to be doing better"
"i don't know" he shrugged
"cassandra, quinn's got physio now" nurse clarins said, making me turn around.
i raised my eyebrow "really, at 1?"
"yeah" clarins sighed
"okay"
"i'll talk to you after, quinn" i waved
i stepped outside of the room and walked down the hallway. turning around the corner, peeking down at them.
the nurse took him down a set of stairs, which, i followed. something felt odd about this.
then, they went out a door to a back alley.
i shook my head, opening the door.
"hey, hey" i shouted
quinn turned around, giving me a disappointed look.
a high looking woman sat on the hood of the car, a bag next to her. probably the same broad who robbed him.
"cass" he sighed
"let's go, peter"
"you're no fun" he frowned
i took his arm, holding onto it.
"i know"
"i'm sorry, quinn"
"where are you going?" clarins asked
"it doesn't matter to you"
i opened the door and walked quinn down a hallway. we were in the ER.
i took a back door and went outside.
"where are we going?" quinn asked
"home" i said
i waved for a taxi, helping quinn into the backseat.
——
we sat there until it stopped at my house.
"thank you" i nodded, helping quinn back out.
i took him up the set of stairs and unlocked the front door.
"let's get you in something clean and something to eat, okay?"
he looked pretty skeptical.
we went upstairs, he stopped in front of a room.
"is that our baby's room?"
"yeah, that's our little girls room" i smiled
i walked further down the hall.
"our room is over here" i pointed
"cass?" he said, still in front of the nursery
"yeah, quinn?"
i stepped closer to him and he wrapped me in a hug.
"thank you"
"i'm so sorry" he sighed
"it's not your fault, quinn"
i rubbed his back up and down.
"none of this was supposed to happen to you"
"i love you, cass" he groaned
"i love you too, quinn"
