UNSOLVED

Diane Genice Dye is an American missing girl who ran away from her home in San Jose, California.

Diane was raised the younger of two children, having an older brother, Dean. In 1979, when she was thirteen, Diane's parents were divorcing and this took a toll on the girl. She'd reportedly talked about running away before and, on the night of July 30th, 1979, Diane left home. She was reported missing but would be brushed off as a runaway.

Two years later, in December of 1981, she was spotted in a mall by a friend, who not only just saw her, but actually spoke to her. Diane said she had no interest whatsoever in going home and as such, that was that. There were several more sightings of Diane throughout the eighties, though they eventually stopped, suggesting that she had been murdered.

In 1982, the deceased body of a teenage girl popped up in Blairstown, New Jersey, and many law enforcement officials believed this Jane Doe, nicknamed as Princess Doe, to be Diane Dye. It is unclear why they believed this, as New Jersey is quite a ways from San Jose, though anything could happen to a girl whose run away. There were also differences in the two girls dental records. DNA testing would later rule out Diane as the decedent and Princess Doe was later identified in 2022 as Dawn Rita Olanick.

As for Diane, her fate remains unknown. Despite many believing her to be dead, there is a possibility she was seen in a Walmart in Stanton, California in 2016, as a post was made on the Facebook page dedicated to Diane.

On her wiki page, it says her sister was the one to make the post, but this is untrue, as Diane did not have a sister. The person who made the post is a woman named Natja Kristy, who lived with the Dyes during the latter part of the seventies, due to problems in her own home and the fact that she was close with Diane's brother, Dean. Natja made a facebook post saying that she believes she saw Diane in a Walmart. She says they made eye contact and then the woman, who appeared impoverished, left the scene. Natja then sat outside in her car, waiting for the woman to come out so she could speak with her, and see if it was in fact Diane. Though, the woman never exited the store, or at least not that Natja saw.

To this day, Diane is still considered missing. So, Diane, if you are reading this by whatever miracle, please, at the very least, let your family know that you are alive and safe. You are an adult, they cannot drag you home, so just let them know you are okay and bring them closure. That's all anybody wants.
