The end of the world started when a pegasus landed on the hood of Percy's car.

Up until then, they were having a great afternoon. Technically Percy wasn't supposed to be driving because he wouldn't turn sixteen for another week, but his mom and his stepdad, Paul, took him and his girlfriend Juliet, to this private stretch of beach on the South Shore, and Paul let them borrow his Prius for a short spin.

Juliet and Percy were driving along. It was a hot August day. Juliet's short golden hair blew lightly in the air as she had the windows down singing the song she had queued up, she wore a lemon yellow blouse over her swimsuit, and Percy knew it was lemon yellow because when he'd said light yellow he'd gotten a two hour lecture from his mom and Juliet how light yellow and lemon yellow were completely different.

"Oh, pull up right there!" she told Percy.

They parked on a ridge overlooking the Atlantic. The sea is always one of their favorite places because of their shared past, but today it was especially nice—glittery green and smooth as glass, as though Percy's dad was keeping it calm just for them.

"Perce, you still haven't told me what you are saving up for," Juliet remarked as they walked hand in hand on the beach, their matching bracelets clinking together as Percy watched in amusement Juliet bury his feet under the sand.

"It's for nothing really,"

"Come on, dude, who you lying to?" Juliet lightly punched his shoulder making him roll his eyes in before nervously clearing his throat and saying, "It's for a bike."

"For a bike?" Juliet asked in confusion, as far as she knew Percy was a four wheeler dude not a two wheeler guy.

"Yeah well, you like biker guys."

Juliet and Percy stared at each other in silence for a moment before Juliet was leaping up on Percy, him catching her mid air as she wrapped her arms around his neck and hurlers on his waist.

"You want to get a bike because of me?" Her voice was soft, vulnerable, something Percy knew usually came from the century long insecurities from Patroclus.
