"Military Advisor Bai Wei greets the Major General!!" Bai Wei said in a loud voice while doing the standard salute towards Jiang Long.
Jiang Long felt his heart begin to race as he looked at the object of all his dreams these past few months. He felt his ears turn red as he noticed Bai Wei looking him up and down, assessing his current state. Once Bai Wei had finished checking him over, he dropped his salute without being told and smiled at Jiang Long while saying "I'm glad you aren't hurt. It seems you've grown a bit since the last time we saw each other"
In his mind, Jiang Long was elated to see Bai Wei, but on the outside, he was calm and collected . Jiang Long internally wondered if all friendships are like this. Not that he would know, Jiang Long had been raised as a perfect prince. Always kind, always smiling, but never close to others. Bai Wei is the first person that Jiang Long can say without a doubt that he can trust him.
Jiang Long averted his eyes from Bai Wei's to try and hide his embarrassment as he gave a shallow "hmm, you seem to have grown as well".
...
Two years later, that war with the demonic beasts finally ended. Through the persistent efforts of the soldiers, the leadership of Jiang Long, and the tactical genius of Bai Wei, the originally seven-year war was concluded after two and a half years with a landside victory for the humans. In fact, the number of casualties incited in the war was one third of that in the world's plotline.
At this moment, Bai Wei was in one of the many dressing rooms of the palace. The palace is holding an awards ceremony as well as a ball to celebrate the end of the war. Bai Wei had only just gotten back from their procession through the streets and were now resting for a few hours in the palace before the ceremony. Both Jiang Long and Bai Wei were set to be rewarded for their contributions to the war efforts. Bai Wei would receive the title of count and a fiefdom in the west while Jiang Long would receive a medal of honor as well as a crown signifying his right to inherit the throne.
Bai Wei was very amused by the king's political intrigue hidden within his rewards. The title was high enough that no one could say that he was not properly rewarded but still left him without any real power. The same could be said about his fiefdom that was far out west in the countryside. If things went the way that the king had planned, then tonight would likely be the last night that Bai Wei would spend in the capital. He needed to act fast.
After all, fading into obscurity was a sure-fire way to fail the mission.
Over the past two years, Bai Wei had managed to raise Jiang Long's favorability score to 69, the highest score possible within the means of friendship. According to the system, 70 to 80 meant the person liked you, 80 to 90 meant they loved you, 90 to 100 was deep love. A favorability score of 100 was a deep timeless love, unwavering in the test of time and something that would follow the soul even into the afterlife. For this reason, the hardware had adamantly pushed for Bai Wei to keep the favorability score at 99. In Response, Bai Wei remarked he would burn that bridge when he got to it. After all, Jiang Long didn't even like him right now so thinking that far ahead seemed vain. Tonight, his mission was simply to raise the favorability score above 70, and thankfully, all that was needed was a little push to guide Jiang Long in the right direction.
Bai Wei observed his appearance in the mirror for a bit before leaving the room. He was dressed in a black suit with white embellishments around the trim as well as a crimson broach pinned to his lapel. The past few years had been kind to him and Bai Wei had grown out of his originally boyish appearance into a tall and respectable literati. His slim waist and thin arms seemed quite frail but one could tell by their movement that they still held great strength. Bai Wei internally remarked that his good looks were the primary reason that he was the second most eligible bachelor in the capital. He was sure that he and Jiang Long, the first most eligible bachelor, would be swarmed by people at the ball tonight.
