Tears began to stream down Ding Zihua's face as he looked at Bai Wei. Bai Wei acted shocked and moved his shaking arms to wipe away his tears, but Ding Zihua stopped him and grabbed his hands. Ding Zihua stared at their interlocked hands with a smile on his face as tears continued to stream down his face. It made for quite a funny sight.

These past two weeks had been hell on earth for Ding Zihua. The medics were able to get Bai Wei back to camp and stabilize his condition, saying that it was a miracle that he was able to live, but that was only the beginning. For the first week, doctors constantly rushed in and out of the general's tent. Never staying long and never communicating with Ding Zihua about Bai Wei's condition. After a week, a temporary-acting general was appointed. The first thing the man did was arrest and interrogate Ding Zihua. After a day and a night, the charges against Ding Zihua were cleared. It was not that the acting general believed that Ding Zihua was innocent, but that Ding Zihua had proven his usefulness as a military tactician, and they were in desperate need for talent and leadership. The next few days went by smoothly until the next problem arose. The chief doctor originally said that it was only a matter of time until Bai Wei woke up, but days passed by one after another and Bai Wei showed no signs of waking. A feeling of despair washed over the camp in the continual absence of their leader, and people began to lose hope that Bai Wei would ever wake up.

Now back to the present, Ding Zihua was afraid to even blink as he stared at his lover, afraid that it was all an illusion. He laughed like a mad man as he tenderly held Bai Wei's hands. Pulling them to his mouth, he kissed the hands with reverence and adoration before looking into Bai Wei's eyes and saying the words he wasn't able to say before.

"I'm sorry... and I love you too"

...

Five months later, in the capitol of Yunnan, the city streets were bustling with excitement as the fourth princess, Ding Lua's bridal parade marched through the streets on their way to Sichuan. This was the liveliest day Yunnan had seen since losing the war to Sichan and the excitement was tangible as it rippled through the vast crowds that flocked to see the large bridal carriage as it headed towards the gate of the city. Commoners threw flowers and well wishes towards the bride to be as she left through the city gate.

Originally, the people of Yunnan were distraught over their loss in the war with Sichuan, but they never expected that Sichuan held no grudge against them and only asked for an anti-violence treaty to be established between the two nations that would be upheld by a political marriage between a princess of the Yunnan kingdom and the god of war, Bai Wei. A few of the aristocrats who knew the inside story felt a bit of pity as they looked at the bridal wagon pass through the streets from the balcony of a restaurant. The commoners down below were oblivious to the suffering that this poor woman would face once she went to Sichan. This beloved princess of the people was actually a sacrifice sent by the emperor to what was certainly a bloody and brutal death at the hands of the infamous killing machine, Bai Wei.

"Poor girl, she'll be lucky to last a year there"

"We can only pray that her death is as painless and swift as possible"

"That may have been possible a few months ago, but certainly not now. Apparently, ever since general Wei's injury five months ago, general Wei lost his mind along with his ability to speak. I have no doubt that she's going to die miserably at his hands once she arrives in Sichuan."One of the gossipier noble women the table sighed and said .

"We can only hope that the newly established eighth princess will quickly ascend to the highest place so that these meaningless wars will soon come to an end" A quiet voice rang out from the back of the group. The woman who spoke was quickly shushed, but no one reprimanded her harshly because everyone secretly agreed with what she said.

They are talking about the new princess that was just established under the name of Wang Shou. The eight princess came from unknown origins and it is rumored that she is the illegitimate daughter of the emperor. There are also rumors that she is deeply entangled with prime minister ding, but nothing has been proven. However despite her unknown background, the newly established princess was able ti gain great traction and support due to her rehabilitation efforts after the war.

When the emperor originally gave her the task of rebuilding the country's infrastructure everyone felt a bit of pity, but did not step in to help. Everyone knew that rehabilitation efforts after the long lasting war were going to be a long and arduous task. The restoration of agriculture alone was bound to be a financial sink hole that no one dared approach. As such, while others felt a bit of pity no one spoke up or lended a helping hand to the newest heir candidate.

But their thoughts never came to fruition. The eighth princess not only restored the agricultural sectors but also overhauled the merchant industries, revitalizing the economy in a few short months. Additionally, the eighth princess's new business, post offices, shot off  and became profitable at record speeds. All of this gave the eighth princess a large influence in terms of authority and capital. Now even the emperor treaded lightly around the newest heir candidate.

The people of Yunnan knew that it was only a matter of time before the eighth princess ascended the throne and waited for her rule with bated breath. Everyone secretly knew that under her leadership, the country of Yunnan was sure to reach new heights never seen before.

The noble women watched as the bright red carriage travelled far off into the distance, and sighed incessantly again for the sacrificial lamb of their new era, the fourth princess. Yunnan was sure to be led into a new era, but at the price of her life.

The bridal carriage paraded through the streets of the capital of Yunnan before exiting the city. From there, the carriage stopped just outside the gates of the capital and the bride was transferred to a larger, horse drawn carriage that was more suitable for long distance travel. After transferring to the new carriage, the wedding procession traveled nonstop for two weeks before finally arriving at the general's mansion in Sichuan.

Upon arrival, the servants of the manner helped the new bride out of her carriage to tidy up and rest before the wedding ceremony. The servants were all inwardly shocked seeing the red- veiled figure step out of the carriage.

It seems the general's new wife was... exceptionally tall.
