On the sixth day, Biao Feng could feel that the effects of the drug were wearing off. He first noticed that some of his senses had been reconnected with his body. He could feel the softness of the couch underneath his body when it woke up that morning. It was a light and fleeting touch ,but it was there none the less. After a full week as a spiritual body, the feeling stood out to Biao Feng clear as day.
He would soon return to his body.
Instinctively, Biao Feng turned his eyes towards Bai Wei. Last night, the two had once again stayed in Bai Wei's office reviewing personnel files late into the night. Bai Wei only slept for two hours before getting up while Biao Feng's body continued to sleep. This had become the norm over the past week.
Originally, Biao Feng was under the impression that his lack of sleep was a weird quirk, but Bai Wei's increasingly reddened and drooping eyes told him otherwise. Now, he was sure that Bai Wei's lifestyle these past few days was no doubt an intentional effort towards an overarching purpose.
But what was his goal? Biao Feng couldn't tell you.
Thinking of this, Biao Feng's spirit floated to the front of the desk to watch Bai Wei. The other was still writing in his notebook. In this week, Bai Wei had filled over one hundred pages of paper and at some point his hands began to tremble. It was difficult to tell whether the trembling was from the lack of sleep or the continuous writing.
Suddenly, Bai Wei stopped writing and look directly at Biao Feng. He smiled brightly before standing up and walking past him. Biao Feng was very surprised and turned around to see that his body had woken up. He felt a surge of jealousy ,but quickly surpressed it.
Even he knew that it was dumb to be jealous of his own body, though why he was jealous in the first place was unknown.
Bai Wei walked to his body and commanded it to give him its hand. He inspected the other's finger tips for a moment before the two walked into the lab. Bai Wei took a blood test from Biao Feng and looked at the report with a melancholic gaze. After confirming the time remaining, Bai Wei turned to Biao Feng and handed him three folded notes that he had been keeping with him this entire time. He instructed Biao Feng to hide them somewhere secure on his person.
They went back to the office and sat in their usual spots: Biao Feng in the office chair and Bai Wei perched on the desk directly in front of him. As they took their seats, Bai Wei's instructions began, meticulous and intense, aimed at ensuring the plan's success.
With only one day remaining; second chances no longer existed.
...
At twelve, Bai Wei took Biao Feng to the training area in the name of testing his strength. Biao Feng stood at the center of a vast, empty room while Bai Wei and two other superiors looked down at him from a viewing platform. Over to the side, Biao Feng's soul watched the scene with trepidation. Originally, in the plan that Bai Wei had mentioned, there would only be one higher up who would supervise the ability test, but it seemed that the leaders of the base put more emphasis on this project than they thought.
The plan was simple. Bai Wei would lure the director in charge of the human test subjects to the arena. Then, Biao Feng was supposed to fake a rampage and break the glass on the supervision room. In his "rampage", Biao Feng would become deranged and attack the supervisor on sight. The goal was to badly injure if not kill this superior and then feign agony as his "rampage" corroded his body from the inside outwards. Finally in the chaos he would utilize a little known exit to the right to escape.
