"To the hospital please. Let's be responsible till the end of it" Zaeem said, the former to the driver and the latter to Nahla who was finding everything so hard to believe.
Was that all it took to regain his memories? She wondered.
Nahla nodded nevertheless before she hopped into the ambulance. Together, they drove away to the nearest gynaecology and neurosurgery hospital.
The moment they arrived, the doctors started performing a surgery on the woman.
Zaeem and Nahla waited quietly after calling her husband using her phone that they found in her bag. The husband arrived the same time the doctor exited the surgery room.
"Both the mother and son are fine" one of the doctors announced. Her husband voiced words of praises and appreciation before the doctors walked away.
"How will I ever repay you?" The man asked Zaeem. "Show kindness to ones in need just like I did to you, that is the best way to repay me" Zaeem replied with a smile.
"I'll make sure of that" the man nodded. "Then we'll take our leave" Zaeem said. All that he needed to know was if the woman would make it and he did so they left.
Both Nahla and Zaeem didn't say a word throughout their journey back home. Zaeem didn't know what to tell Nahla first about his life while Nahla was afraid to talk to him, just like she was with every stranger. She felt now that he had regained his memories, he would be a different person.
The bus stopped at the exact spot they alighted earlier when they returned from Khala Noor's house so they had to pass by the restaurant again. No one attempted to go into the restaurant since the main purpose they wanted to go was invalid at the moment.
But the restaurant owner came out of the restaurant and called out to them. She was yet to have any customers so she needn't worry about leaving the restaurant opened while she talked to them.
"Ich glaube (I believe) you were the woman who came to inquire about this young man some days back?" The woman asked. "Ja bin ich (yes i am)" Nahla replied.
"I thought so. After you left the other day, an elderly man came to ask about him too, he said his name is Mateo. I told him about you but unfortunately, I didn't get any information on you so he left behind his number Incase you came back he said" The woman explained before passing a piece of paper to Nahla.
Nahla went ahead to open the paper and truly, it was a phone number and a single name written beneath it; "Mateo"
"Do you perhaps know him?" Nahla asked Zaeem while passing the paper to him. "Yes, yes I do" Zaeem replied before accepting it. "Danke (Thank you)" Nahla appreciated the woman with a smile. "Gern geschehen (You're welcome)" The woman smiled back before walking back into her restaurant.
And yet again, silence reigned till those two found themselves back at Nahla's abode.
"Welcome back. You two took longer than expected" Farah said upon hearing their taslims at the door. "Thank you" Zaeem replied when she stood in front of them.
"What's with the long faces?" Farah asked noticing each of their expressions. It was not the same with the one she normally saw when they were together, Nahla's eyes were also not looking into hers.
"He remembers Ummie, he remembers everything now" Nahla broke the news to her. "Masha Allah! Innahaa bithab'i akhbaaru raa'i'a (Allah's willing! This is a wonderful news)" Farah smiled, genuinely.
