Elijah
Red. The pet name slipped out of me without much thought to it. I seldom give anyone a nickname. Not even my seven year old sons have one.
I find them ridiculous in more ways than one. Moreover I find them disrespectful and belittling. But I swear to Lyria that man is so infuriating that I can't help but call him whatever comes to mind.
I can't help but be enamoured by the mystery of his existence. And hate it all at the same time, double the frustration.
In fact it's triple the tax because guess what? My children are more than obsessed with him. That small interaction made them talk about him almost the whole night when we went back home. Nothing I said could deter them. Their in love with him and keep reenacting his magic tricks with no break. I'd rather anything else.
And now here I am,throwing myself head first into some unofficial contract with him. But its nowhere near my fault,he's the one who had to have all the credentials of someone who I want to work with.
I would be happy if it was anyone but him.
But I'll set my emotional joy aside because this project means more. So much more. I've been working on a home security system for years. And I can only have the best to produce the best. The last thing I'm willing to do is give up on this."Okay, promise me you'll be good at school."I mindlessly say as I look into the back seat of my car where my kids look back at me in their school uniform. The same school I went when I was a Prince.
Navy blue fabric and a golden emblem. There's no other horrendous clash of colours I'd trust my children with in all honesty. "Promise."they both say in unison as they step out of the car onto wet pavement from last nights heavy rains. I follow them out and get on an eye level with the both of them,
"You're gonna come to my soccer game this weekend, right dad?"Liam asks me almost at the say time Oliver squeezes me arm,
"What about my chess match? You won't miss it,right?"
"When have I ever? And we talked about this, you send me a letter with the time, place and address and then I'll schedule your appointment. You're both grown ups now."
"That's boring though."Liam says to me. I love him but I keep wondering where he inherited the attitude from, but he's mine and I love him regardless of his well thought out comebacks. "Carrie's mom doesn't do that."he tells me with a unbothered expression, pulling his backpack higher over his shoulders,
"Hmm,interesting, are you Carrie?"I ask and he groans,
"Dad!"he grumbles,frowning and I can't help but laugh. He's going to end me when he's a teenager,
"It happens at school,in the gym on stage next Friday. I'm defending my championship."Oliver explains to me,
"Time?"I ask opening my phone to set a reminder,
"I think... eleven? Yeah, eleven!"I flip my phone around and show him that I set two reminders for Friday next week.
"It's settled then,I'll be to your chess match and I'll go your soccer game? Alright?"they both nod and I stand,"I'm off to work then."they take their leave before me and I watch them jog to the door of the academy, regrouping with their friends and feel at peace.________________
I walk into the lobby of the bottom floor of the sky scraper that is my office building. The physical platform of Lewis Corp. What my father left me in charge of seven years ago. Out of habit I fidget with the connecting button of my blazer as I stride,
It keeps my fingers busy as I mentally plan out my day and its objectives. Stress over little things, freak out about crises that have yet to occur and-
There he is.
