Kristian

Elijah is invited to some high end event and apparently I have to come.
If I'm honest? I don't like being around Elijah after what I saw- at least what I thought I say,it's been weeks and he's not the same.
He's never the same after that. I feel like it's all my fault,we were good. Perfect. My whole world could be crumbling, ripping right at its seams and he'd be there to tell me I look awful.
We've only known each other for a couple of weeks and it might be too early to be using metaphors like that about him but. Just but, okay. He's there to call me Red. To make me feel like I'm in a spy movie with all his weird machines and big words.
And now he's thinking I'm some sort of weirdo who imagines things.
Today, though? I can't tell him I'm busy or say I'm visiting my mom or something. I have to get dressed up and go to some big event with the guy.
"What the hell are you thinking about?"Elijah says to me knocking me straight out of my thoughts. I'm seated in the passenger seat of an expensive sports car I didn't even know the guy owned. Even though he's addressing me,he won't look me in the eye,
"Nothing,"I lie, looking out to the window where everything is dark but I know even if I can't see that this is private property. This is mansion. Maybe even more than one.
And I was invited to this party,by Jonathan Kane,an avatar who looks like a self proclaimed 'guru'. I think his friends are playing some sick joke on us by inviting me here,"It's not about you,Kristian. He invited you out of courtesy,I bet he doesn't even care if you show up,"
"Thanks for reminding me,"I know that's a lie,it does matter whether or not I make it. Because if I don't come, everyone will know I stood up this huge event the 'Ruler of the clouds' is throwing. Someone tailed the guy who was delivering my letter and now it's public.
Besides everyone already expected me to hitch a ride with my boss anyway.
"We're here."Elijah says pulling the car over and parking it. He's so good at looking mad. And looking handsome at the same time, his face cold and stoic illuminated by the moonlight. I think him wearing a suit will get old,I thought wrong because I was yet to see Elijah in a suit.
Once we get out I try not to marvel at the size of the house,I keep walking trying not to look like I'm staring. Because I think everyone will be able to see what I'm doing,I'm in a scarlet red dress, like I'm here to make my ex jealous.
It's beautiful. Maybe not on me,because Lewis spared me exactly three seconds before looking away.
"Take my arm,"he says in an indifferent tone, and I sigh locking arms with him
We walk up the stairs and the doors are open and a giant house is what we find. It looks like ballroom,a huge chandelier in the middle.
"Lewis! Mr White! I'm so glad you two could make it,"Of course Lucian Relish is here,
"Mr Relish, nice to see you too."I say shaking his hand and squealing when he pulls me into a tight embrace,
"I already told you to call me Relish didn't I?"he says pulling away,"Lewis,I'm going to have to steal this gorgeous gentleman away from you. I'd like to introduce him to a friend of mine,"
I watch his jaw work as we both wait for his answer. His hand flexing at his side,"Go ahead, just bring him back within the hour I suppose,"
"No promises,"Relish jokes before we both laugh and Lewis doesn't seem concerned with joining us. We stop after noticing his bad mood,
"I'll be off then,"Then he leaves without looking back, disappearing into the large crowd. Something in my heart squeezes. I choose to ignore it,because whatever it is not like there's something I can do about it,

Relish parades me around for exactly an hour. His friend in question was his father and he was almost as funny and entertaining as his son.
He's a nice guy, great reputation and adorable smile but I just-
Okay,I can't stop thinking about Elijah. So once an hour is over I immediately take the chance and search the crowd for him. We won't talk,I know that but I,after okay with huddling behind him.
Besides if he's a jerk to me,I'll go back to Relish or call his mom OR! Look for Azaar,he seemed like a nice guy. In my frantic search I bump into someone,"I'm so sorry-"when I look up its not the warm blue I've familiarised myself with in the past hour. It's an icy blue. Like daggers.
Brent McConnell. "Look what the cat dragged in,I didn't think you'd actually come,"he tells me with a smirk,
"Neither did I,thanks for catching me,"it's hard to hide my disdain for this man when he's this close pretending he didn't give me a horrible prejudiced score in competition less than a month ago,
"You're welcome. You look... out there tonight. Since Elijah's not here nagging in our ears I'll say it,red has always been your colour."he puts his hands in his pockets and lets his eyes wander over my frame making me feel a little too seen,
"Cryptic again. Great. Can I go now, sir?"
"I think it's about time you stop pretending. It's Brent,in case you forgot."
"I might have because I can not remember our so called history-"I'm silenced when he grabs me by my wrist and squeezes until I feel the blood flow stopping,
"Is this your way of pissing me off?"he hisses, clearly angry,
"I get this is your thing but we're in public and you're-"I catch Elijah at the other side of the ballroom. Staring. Or rather glaring. His eyes piercing into both me and Brent, his lips carefully on a flute glass full of champagne he clearly wasn't drinking.
Suddenly I feel even more embarrassed now that I know he's seeing me,"Let go,"I demand and miraculously,he does. He lets go of my arm and I instantly walk. Walk as fast as I can to the other side of the room.
It's like a split second before I'm in front of Elijah. His eyes still cold as he looks down at me,"Here I thought you'd never return,"he says to me before downing the entire glass of champagne,
"Well, here I am. Not that you were concerned with me leaving in the first place,"
"Would you have enjoyed my company?"
"Only because you make yourself insufferable."I retort and he scoffs. Setting his empty glass down at the passing tray, with elegant ease.  Music starts to play and people get in frenzy ready to dance.
I look away from the live orchestra and back to Lewis,"Care for dance?"I ask extending my hand towards him and he looks at it then away. Making an uninterested sound of disapproval. "Lewis,I warn."Watching him pretend to check his nails,
"Perhaps you should go ask,Relish,I'm sure he'd love to take you out to the floor, darling."
"What? Not in the mood?"I ask,my hand still out,
"Oh, I'm just worried you'll go out there and everyone will be subjected to what an awful dancer you are,I've see you, trust me."
"It's just some wordless music out there."I mutter, annoyed with his attitude. He hears me,as always and pinches the bridge of his nose delicately,
"Wordless music. You know people are going out there to waltz. Kristian,WALTZ. What were you planning to do with your dive bar dance moves?"
"Dive bar? Wow. Actually just say no and I'll go home and tell everyone you spend nights awake because you don't like your prototype. I mean it's barely functional-"
"Now,don't you threaten me,you know it has consequences I'm afraid you can't bare. You work on this project with me. It's as much of my fault as it is yours,"He takes an imposing step closer to me. Until I can smell his pollen like cologne that's been joined by the dangerous tints of expensive liquor,
"The public doesn't know that. And I'm not threatening you,I'm telling you."A pause,"So? How about it,risk your reputation or have a simple dance with me?"
"How dare you even suggest-"I drag him off his still position just in time for the second dance. A new song starts to play.
"You'll let me step on your feet,"
"I swear to Lyria I will make you pay for this."he tells me and takes one of my hands and places the other on his shoulder,
"I'll be waiting."I say with a smile. Just to infuriate him.
