Elijah

In the academy, school of duty and servitude for avatars, you're gonna learn a lot. I had to master more than three languages,be pro at least two sports. Know one martial art. It's hard, the need to teach you all that,in less than three years.
All that so you can be able to run more than five hundred meters at the same pace. Building upon the already supernatural human abilities you get when you become an avatar.
And sometimes, even with all that suffering- you still won't be able to catch up to a dark creature.
Tonight,I'm chasing a monster. Like one's in stories,he's already injured seven civilians and we don't know if there fatalities. It's coal coloured body is covered in a shining layer of blood.
I've been chasing it for twenty minutes through buildings and rooftops. When me and Shane are up here, panting as we go,Azaar is on the road. And the rest of them their waiting in designated positions, waiting to catch this thing.
But will we? Seven feet of pure vein and muscles, just about as many eyes as a spider, huge but rivalling a track runner in speed. It's a dark creature version of human. Freakish but you can see what the dark Lord had in mind. In levels of difficulty,a rookie could never deal with this thing.
The city is still alive,no evacuation has been done each person outside right now is at risk of losing their lives. "What should we do?"Shane asks me,he's running out of energy,we've gone way over five hundred meters.
"I need it to stay still..."I say once it stops moving. Dead end. It looks around, releasing screams of distress. It sounds nothing like a human voice. It sounds like a roar, distorted and hellish it's terrifying. The sound of that in the dark, vibrating through the air.
It's feet make wet sounds as it walks. Who knows what that is,water, blood or bodily fluid from someone's severed organ. Just as our plan to get it right where we want it is in effect. Shane moving ever so slowly behind him. Then it runs.
Dead end no more,it dives for the building. I only have two thoughts.
Breakable glass window. People inside.
Danger.
Summoning aether into my palm I use a vine to try and yank him back but his strength takes me with him like I'm a yo-yo.
He goes first breaking the window through. The sound of shattering glass accompanied by screams of people inside the restaurant is all I can hear as I struggle to get up.
Everything is slow. And shaking. The world is shaking as my hearing recovers slowly,"Elijah."someone says,
"...Elijah,move. Now!"just as I look up a black fist ready to bash my head in I grunt, dodging the attack,
Aggravated, the monster roars causing the distressed people to get even more panicked. Putting my bracelet to my mouth,"Azaar,do you copy? I need you and Rowin at my location now."
"Copy that,on our way now."he answers,
"Shane,it's arms, now."following my command he uses his strings of blood as bonds to pull him to the ground. I pull out an arrow from my sash and ready myself to shoot. The arrow head, blooms lightning up in a pure emerald green. Aiming at it's head I know that this one hit can kill it,
"Oh my god,"a familiar voice from the crowd whispers,I spare a single glance their way and through the chaos. Through piles of shattered glass, smears of blood and overturned tables and chairs in a restaurant,I see red hair.
I see his eyes once so full of life now full of fear. His hand on his mouth as he backs away slowly. And beside him is... Relish.
Lucian Relish and Kristian. My assistant at a fancy restaurant at this time of night. I'm not an idiot. I know exactly what they're doing here.
I can't continue my staring because my target breaks free from its constraints and jumps on me. Pummelling me to the ground, this time I let out a scream because pain strikes up my spine.
"Are you serious?! What the hell was that? You think I won't leave and let you die here?"Shane reprimands and yes,I zoned out.
Before I can answer him, this thing roars. It's saliva dropping on top of me. I groan as I shift and pull out my pocket knife and stab it,right through it's skull. It's obsidian blood dripping over my face,it pulls off my and screeches as it tries to yank it out. Like a dog with a bone stuck in its mouth.
That's what I mean by human but not really. It can't function like we do. At least not with ease.
Just at that moment Azaar, comes through the door,"Evacuate all these people out of here, and come back as quickly as possible."
"On it."He shouts over the noise as me and Shane start the maneuver all over again.
Shane's blood knots around it's limbs, disabling it. I pull put my bow and arrow and shoot. Cracking through it's skull, green plants spourt from the point of impact covering its body in growth, leaves and roots. Some above, some beneath it's skin.
The pain of having something grow in your flesh is unimaginable. That's why this maneuver is only for dark creatures and not criminals. "Azaar, now."
Azaar uses his powers to light the plants on fire, setting the creature a blaze. In mere seconds it becomes a raging inferno its screams drifting along with it as it meets its death.
Then with a pop,it turns into a puff of smoke. Leaving behind a small red jewel,Azaar is the one to pick it up,"... it's a rose."he says simply.

"At the very least I thought I could taxi-fy this one, their rare and it would make tonight's suffering worth it,"Shane tells me once we reach the head quarters trauma care unit.
We need to work fast because soon the overuse of our abilities will catch up with all of us. Using our powers as convenient as it is has down sides, too much can cause an overload. Overusing is like running without stopping for water or food. Soon you'll black out.
Faint. Collapse. Vomit. Whatever your body can do to make you stop moving. Afterwards you can sleep for up to a week,it's like a coma. It doesn't stop until everything is replenished in your system.
"Maybe don't think about your collection for just one night,go to and record everything we saw tonight, including the fact that this is not a natural rift."I instruct, and he nods before branching off. I pull on my surgical gloves and mask ready to use every last bit of my energy to save and health however I can,
"Elijah?"I turn around in process of putting on my mask and face Kristian,
"... what are you doing here?"I ask, exhausted, too tired to shout or interrogate him."No,how did you get in here?"
Behind,Kristian who looks dishevelled but still has the heart to frown at me,is Relish. Holding up his nobility badge, with an awkward smile. That backstabber.
"Not the point. Are you... okay? You're injured."He says, looking at my arm sleeve which is split and wet from blood that already dried. I forgot about that.
Rolling my eyes,I answer him,"I'm fine. But you shouldn't be here after everything have Relish take you home."I demand waiting for him to follow my orders,
"Okay but you're fine right-"he puts his hands in front of him and I see scars. Red,bruised skin and festering. Holding them, careful not to hurt him,
"What happened? Did you get hurt earlier?"he pulls away and puts his hands behind his back,
"What no,I got injured while I was at home-"
"Doing what?"
"I uhm- a kettle! I spilled hot water on my hand. No big problem,I'm healing fine."It's a lie. A clear one,
Forcing his hands out from behind him,I look at his hands more carefully. "I've seen enough injuries to know that this-"I say lifting his right hand,"Is blunt force trauma."I say inspecting the bruise,"And this,on your other hand is a burn."
He doesn't answer me as he seems embarrassed,"You."I say looking up at Relish,"You did this didn't you?"I ask walking towards him only to get stopped by Kristian pulling me back,
"Are you crazy? It's complicated, okay? But it has nothing to do with him."
"Fine, let's say you did hurt your hands with a goddamn kettle like you say you did. He's still got blame to carry, because you shouldn't have been in that restaurant the moment the glass broke,Relish."it might be the exhaustion. Maybe the anger that I don't feel comfortable with how me and Kristian have been. But I'm yelling.
"It was my fault-"Kristian tries to tell me,holding me back from my arm,
"I don't care,if you said you wanted to be in there,Kristian! I don't give a damn whether he told you to let him stay, you should have protected him. But you didn't! Relish you out him in danger, weren't you two suppose to be on a date?"when I say this they both go quiet and blink at me.
"We weren't on a date."Kristian tells me,and I snap my head his way. Placing my hands on my hips,I bark out a laugh,
"Oh so I'm an idiot now? What were you two doing then? Having a tea party?"
"Today,we scheduled a meeting together but I couldn't get you on the phone this morning so I called Kristian-"
"And we had a meeting at the restaurant at night, after our day jobs. Not a date."they both explain and my cheeks warm as I cross my arms over my chest.
Relish looks like all the colour drained from his face. And I'm embarrassed.
Extremely.
