Keep Trying

Days went by while I was with Michonne, and we never found a trace of the governor. "I'm starting to think the guy just fell off the earth." She sighed. "11:58. And I know, me too." I picked up my walkie and not a minute later, I heard Daryl's voice. "You doing okay?" I smiled. "I'm okay. What about you." "I'm good. When yall coming home?" I looked at Michonne. "Next day or two." She told me. "Here in a day or so." "Alright. Be careful." "You too." I put the walkie back in my pocket. I knew Daryl kept his in his pocket just in case too, because sometimes he'd accidentally hit the button. I turned my volume down so that I'd hardly hear it, but I'd hear it if he needed anything. "Daryl huh? He really doesn't like you out of his sight." I shrugged. "He's just a worrier. It'll be fine." She nodded. We were in a rather large SUV now, driving around highways and such. "What if we just never find him?" I asked her. She shrugged. "Then I'll assume he's dead... But I'm gonna find him."

Another day full of hours of searching and still not a damn thing. It was frustrating beyond belief. The only good part was that while we were out, we stopped and got stuff for the prison. "Are those pigs?" I mumbled, looking at something running in the trees beside us. Michonne stopped and we watched a moment. "Yeah. I think so." I looked at her. "Wanna see if we can catch em?" She laughed. "We need a trailer then." I hummed a moment. "Go see about finding one, I'll take some rope and see if I can get one or two." She nodded and chuckled. "Alright."

I grabbed some of our food and some ropes, then went over to where the pigs were. I sighed and tied the rope and made it into a snare trap, then put the food down. I stepped behind a tree, waiting for something to take the bait. I sat by a tree, thinking about everything that happened with the governor. I hated the man with such a passion. He is the one man I don't think I'd ever show mercy on, but I'm not sure what I'd do when I caught him. What would I say to him? I'd kill him, I know that. I'd hunt him down like an animal if I could just find a trace of the disgrace of a man. I'd say twenty later, I snagged one of the pigs. It was obviously a mama, because the piglets began to get scared. I quickly snatched the two up, tying them to my wrist and doing the same to their mother. I pulled them along with me, but the piglet was making too much noise. It took around 5 minutes more for Michonne to show up, an animal trailer on the back of the vehicle. I quickly shooed the pigs onto it, putting food in it and some grass and such on the ground for them to lay on. "We should go back to the prison soon now that we got these, huh?" I nodded a bit. She smiled. "We'll keep trying?" I nodded. "We're not gonna give up."

That night we laid in the SUV, talking about our pasts. Michonne told me about a boy... Her son. "He was the biggest ball of joy you'd ever see. I loved him more than anything in the world." She had tears in her eyes, and I grabbed her hand. "What about you?" I sighed. "No kids. Hell I was a virgin before shit hit the fan. I lived with Sal and Marie until I was 20, then moved to an apartment by myself." "Sal and Marie?" I nodded. "My boss and his wife. They took me in when I was 16, after my father.. Uh... Opted out." She went wide eyed. "Oh. What about your mom, and your brother and sister? They're at the prison." "My mom kinda... Kinda left me when I was 13. She took them with her." She asked more questions, and I answered some of them, but... Not many. That was how we fell asleep.

That morning we went back to the prison. We pulled up around 6:30, extremely early, so I didn't expect anyone to be up. To my surprise, Rick opened the gate for us, a wide grin on his face. I hopped out and he hugged me tight. "I missed you." He told us. I chuckled, and he told me Daryl was in our tower.

I slowly crept in, laying beside him on our bed. He shot up, probably thinking I was someone else, but when he saw me he smiled. "Babe!" He hugged me tightly to him. "You okay? You're home early." I nodded. "I'm fine." He nodded and slowly leaned in, kissing me. "It's early." He mumbled, looking down at his watch. I looked at what he was sleeping with, grinning. "Is that my shirt?" He looked over. "Must've had it thrown around or somethin when you left." He said, but I only giggled and kissed him. "Whatever you say babe." He held onto me for a few minutes, smiling at me and telling me everything that's happened in the few days I was gone. It was complete and utter bliss.

Michonne decided she was leaving again, but told me that I could stay because she didn't know how long she was gonna be gone. She only said that she would come back soon, and that I should stay because they needed me at the prison. I didn't like the thought of her leaving again by herself, but there wasn't going to be any changing her mind and everyone knew it, so I agreed. "Just be safe."
